Hi we live in Montreal Canada.
This is my first post.

Family of 4 . We are considering purchasing a timeshare. It definitely is overwhelming the amount of info and things to consider. We typically travel once a year as a family in All inclusive beach type vacations (timelines January to march break) and would love to start doing another adult only type trip for me and my wife ( 4-5 days out of season September to November ). As kids are getting older, rooms are getting smaller for us and prices are increasing when we travel . The next phase of our family travel may not include a full beach vacation but more sight seeing opportunities then b4. I also like the idea of kids having their own room and the option of saving money on food with groceries. I think Timeshares could be a great option but we need to find a company that has a decent portfolio( that is not just focused on Orlando)

Since we live in Canada driving to a lot of these locations are 14+ hrs to a sunny destination so cheap airfare is the best option where as driving means more time off and planning which is ok if it is the right location.

I have looked at Hilton Grand Vacation Club but are unsure since there does not seem to be alot of locations to access with a resale points account.(11200 would be a starting point)
Would love to hear feedback and what timeshare company works best for you with reasonable MF.

Here are a few places that come to mind but not limited to;
Orlando, Myrtle Beach (quick 4-5 day vacations) Mexico

Portugal,Italy,Greece,France
Nashville,New York (2 days trips)
New Orleans

I am sure this has been asked b4 so i apologize if this is a duplicate type of post.
Thank You in advance for your replies

You've passed the first test in coming here to ask questions before proceeding. Take your time to understand before you proceed, if thats a year or so, not a problem.

Handily TUG has a new to timesharing section with input from previous questions that you can read as well as a form that you can fill in to get structured input. Have a look there:

Before even considering buying anything I would strongly suggest renting some timeshare units in various systems.

Renting is easy here, on Redweek and various other platforms. Renting is generally more affordable than hotel or resort stays and can frequently even be cheaper than owning.

Continue to do research on TUG. Timesharing is more complex than you may think. Many owners are disappointed because they can't figure out how to use what they own.

Take great care. Timeshares are easy to buy and hard to get rid of. Think of your exit strategy.

Without the full form they linked you to it's going to be hard to give great advice, but I'd suggest reading up how people use timeshares and how they don't. Please do go to that linked form and fill it out so we can give reasonable advice. There's no one best system.

Timeshare and all-inclusive are almost never a good deal. You are better off just buying a package vacation with airfare, hotel, and the AI fee included.

Retail vs. resale doesn't matter with HGVC. You'll have access to the same locations either way.

On some of your desired locations you would need to trade with RCI, which usually means you will need to plan well over a year in advance.

That isn't entirely true. It was more true before HGV Max. However, the value of what you get with a developer (retail) purchase isn't worth it to most informed purchasers.

Here's a thread discussing retail vs resale.
