Has anyone dealt with a company called Timeshare Exchange International? They claim to be willing to pay us $1,900 per year for each of our bonus weeks that we receive from RCI and II. They claim that they use these weeks to secure units for rental for corporate events. One catch is that they require a one-time $2,500 payment to them up front. If they are legitimate, it seems like a great deal, but perhaps too good to be true. We gave them the payment but have a couple of days left to back out.

Sadly, I suspect you've been scammed.
The company name you reference belongs to a long-inactive Florida Corp.

There have been very very similar scams in the past; see the thread here: SCAM

Suggest you:

  • Cancel any payments made immediately
  • Contact the MD Attorney Gen's office with information about the solicitation.

This rental-to-corporate-events pitch is a well-known scam which has operated under a variety of different names over the years. They extract an upfront fee which supposedly will enable them to sell your condo outright to the "planning organizations", or occasionally it is an offer like this one to deal in rental of individual weeks. Back out now, before your ability to do so expires.

Why would someone legitimate want you to pay more upfront then they will pay you for the week? If it was legitimate, they might ask you to give them the week and then they will pay you after they receive it or something like that, which would still carry some risk, but if you weren't going to use the week, at least you wouldn't be out of any cash.

Welcome to TUG.
Hopefully you paid with a credit card? If so, call immediately and let the bank card company know you were scammed.

Yeah, sadly, scammers and con-artists are typically not abrasive horrible people that you immediately want to hang-up on. Typically, they are smooth-talkers and say exactly what you want to hear and play on your emotions and feedback. Yes, some folks are more easily convinced than others, but given the right circumstances, just about anybody can be scammed at least once.

Anybody signed up to buy a timeshare at a presentation? Then you might have been scammed just a little at least......
