I had my credit score checked today and there is a claim form a Resort Recovery. I assume it is for the amount I stopped paying on maintenance fees for a Los Cabos tiemshare.

Does anyone know if they will accept settlements for a lesser amount while granting a wash from the timeshare with no future liability.

I have NEVER received anything from the timeshare or this company, it just showed up. I probably do owe tho as I walked away from it.

Howdy Tim.

If you received an inquiry on your credit report the person pulling that report must have a "permissible purpose" for doing so. Prior to inserting a negative trade line into your credit report you must be provided with "Written Notice" and be provided with an opportunity to request "validation" for the debt (you do this via a simple validation letter requesting information).

If they insert the trade line into your credit report without sending a letter informing you of such, you are entitled to receive $1,000 per violation according to the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

I hope this helps! If you pay a collection for less than what is owed it will still appear negative on your credit report. Let me know if you have questions. :)
