You can now go online to reserve a spot for a small fee to enter the caverns within a 1 hour window. To me this is a good thing because in the past it appeared to be first come, first served. However, no ranger-led tours for this year, thanks to Covid-19.

We will be visiting there later this month and reserved our entry time a few weeks ago. Easy process. First time visit, so we are really looking forward to it. One thing they did mention is that there could be a delay in taking the elevator back up out of the caverns due to COVID restrictions. The alternative is to hike out, which apparently is a little steep in certain places. We will be prepared either way.

Best regards.

We are there W 4/21 9:30-10:30 time slot after dropping middle grandson off at the Carlsbad airport. The process was easy and I was able to change to an earlier time without paying a new fee. We are in Ruidoso at Crown Point Condos starting the 16th, then off to Wyndham Taos on the 23d.
When will you be there, Mike?

We arrive in Carlsbad in the afternoon of the 18th, tour the caverns the morning of the 19th, and then drive to San Antonio. We reserved the 9:30-10:30am slot too, so if we arrive a little early we will look to do what you did. I did notice that the 8:30 slot wasn’t as popular. Probably because the caverns are 40 minutes or so from Carlsbad. Should be a good experience either way.

Best regards.

Mike
