Economy is nutty.
Maintenance fees go up, up, up.
I say use Hilton in its few locations and have fun.
I'm going to do my best to rent my Marriotts (HOPEFULLY one will sell) and enjoy the gorgeous resorts in Orlando, Vegas, and Hawaii (if I can ever get air I can afford there again).

Timesharing doesn't seem smart anymore. at least not right now. :(

I see that you have had a taste of points and like it better than weeks.

Enjoy HGVC.

Your points are well taken. Timesharing has changed over the years, and will continue to change in one form or another.

Keeps reinventing itself, first weeks, then points, annual, biennial, triennial etc.

Yes, it may be time to just vacation again.

I understand your opinion on this, however, I know if I didn't own one, I sure wouldn't vacation as much as I do. We would be down to no vacations a year, as this is the only reason I can give my DH for having to vacation. Not to mention I have a family of 6 and it is no way I could go back to hotels....ever. Now, I have considered downsizing, and plan to do that in about 3 years....maybe..

One of the great things about timesharing is the ability to hang out at the resort pool, eat in, etc. I am certainly looking at more "drive to" locations, but I'll still vacation.

Smart Doesn't Always Count For Much.

Timesharing doesn't seem smart anymore.
We like timeshare vacationing at Motel 6 & Super 8 rates.

We enjoy hanging out at timeshare resorts.

We don't care all that much for hanging out within the 4 walls of Motel 6 & Super 8.

I'll be able to vacation more simply after this May, when we return from England.
Compared to taking my 20-something stepsons to England, any vacation after that, will be simple indeed.
I'll have satisfied my DW's insistence on family-bonding, and at least I won't have to do that again.

I totally agree with you. I don't want to give up timesharing. I need :( to give up going to exotic locations using Marriott right now. Hilton is either almost as nice or as nice - depending on location and opinion - as Marriott. But my Marriott fees are SO high that I really should rent them (can't sell them right now in this market). We've gone to such great places with Marriott like Spain, Newport Coast, Aruba. Of course Hawaii is equal - but we live on the east coast.

So Orlando, which is not my favorite locations, has beautiful Hiltons. So we'll hang out at their beautiful pools. :cheer:

Well don't forget about the affiliates HGVC has in it's internal system as well as the ability it has to exchange within RCI.

If you have some locations you are interested in that are "close by" to you, you can always see if there is availability or even have HGVC begin an on-going search for you. While there's nothing wrong with the primary three developer locations, there's a whole lot more you can do while using your HGVC points.

True enuff, but often that requires using a telephone to dial a number, talking to someone, and then being flexible enuff to accept alternatives... something many of us desk-jockeys find too daunting.
