I’ve bought numerous iPhones on eBay. You can easily find one that fits your needs. For example:

I don’t know this seller. This is just one example. It seems the current premium for an iPhone 8 is only ~$20-30 over an iPhone 7, so that’s definitely worth a little more. This example also includes 64gb for $215. If you want peace of mind, also buy the special 1 year squaretrade warranty from eBay at time of purchase (I don’t believe they sell it post purchase...I tried once and wasn’t able to).

There are some really good tips in here - thank you all.

I use Cricket. Same network as AT&T. I have unlimited data etc for 3 phones on my plan. $90 per month.

FYI, the one phone that Costco has sold directly, not through a vendor, is the SE. I just checked and they don't seem to be in stock. I don't remember the price. If you search for unlocked phones, you find the phones that Costco IS selling directly. Right now, for lower cost phones, they have the Motorola G series that range from 189 (32gb) to 279 (128gb). (Don't know if that is a good price or not. These are both members only.)

The Microsoft Surface Duo (looks sweet) is 1499 (more than a computer, for sure!)

The LG GX8 Thinq 128gb is 699.

Definitely shop around for the phones, but I prefer unlocked.

Be sure to also check out mintmobile.com (plans: https://www.mintmobile.com/plans/). I switched to them last year. They use the t-mobile network, and since I was with t-mobile I knew the coverage was fine. I don’t need unlimited data on my phone (especially now when I’m home most of the time) so I paid for a year of coverage with unlimited voice and text with 3GB data per month for $15 plus taxes per month. After two referrals and an AMEX promotion, I paid just under $90 for the entire year. If you prefer this, send me a pm and I’ll send you a code.

If t-mobile coverage isn’t good where you are also look at usmobile.com which offers Verizon as an option. They also have very good rates. I’m now using them for my iPad and since it’s month to month I don’t need to pay at all currently when I’m not using it outside my home.

I'm with Sprint and moving, hard to say if spotty coverage in destination is my old crap phone or heavy tree coverage plus hilly terrain, but no clue on other carrier coverage down there.
