I was just thinking of all the Hotel stays at the various hotels and wonder if the Etiquette is the same for TS resort. Mainly the tipping of various workers in the hotel. When I stayed in a Hotel, vaction or business, I normally left a tip for the cleanning person, the bell hop if they had one, valet parking, etc. I never used the Concerige but do you tip them for helping you.

Thanks

I always tip if their pay is based on anticipated tips (waitress) or for outstanding service. Anything else is a nice gesture, but totally unnecessary. That's what their getting paid for.

I always wonder about the cleaning people. It's usually different people, isn't it? How does one tip THE person who cleans one's room?

I tip all waitresses/bartenders in the same way as anywhere - 20%.

I will tip the bell hop if he brings up luggage - usually 1- 2 dollars a bag.

I usually leave a few dollars per night stay to the cleaning crew on any regular hotel stay. However, @ HGVC I leave $3 to $5 per visit if they came and cleaned at least once (change towels, turn beds and sometimes even move things around in the kitchen area;) . I like to take care of the cleaning crew if I feel they did a good job or made an extra effort taking care of our room.

Yes, I tip the cleaning staff - when they do the midweek cleaning. A lot of timeshares use a cleaning service on turnover day. While the floor cleaner may be present, I want to make sure that the person who is there 5 days (and gets me things I might ask for; keeps the hall nice) gets the tip from me.

I also use tipping during the vacation as a time to educate the kids with me. I used to ski and do the ski school vacation week. The ski instructors NEVER wanted the kids classes (for the week) as they got $10 a day as pay and the rest as tips. Parents would give the tip to the kid to give to the instructor - one of my ski instructor friends had 15 kids and got less than $20 TOTAL from the kids for the week (parents tip well in their class). I make sure the kids give the activities staff that they dealt with the tip (I try to find out when their off days is). The staff is very happy (seems not to be the norm in their job to get a tip) and the kid always feels good.
