time for a new TUG logo for shirts etc- image/design experts needed!

My $0,02 worth, from the gallery where squirrels feed,

If the logo is going to include some type of image of a real object, the object in the image should be related to what entity is about. The suitcase and planes to me convey "travel". Whereas something that has a palm tree or a beach or a sunset conveys "vacation". Since TUG is more about vacation than about travel, I tilt design that evokes thoughts of vacation, not of travel.

When it comes to graphics, I'm also a minimalist. Every pixel needs to connect to the message, and if you can convey the same thing with fewer pixels, that is more effective.

This one is probably my favorite. I really like this palm trees and hammock image. It's clean, simple, yet conveys much about vacation. The hammock is a nice touch because it adds the element of relaxation. So the palm trees connote location, and the hammock adds calmness. The whole think is done in a single with simple and yet graceful line. www.tug.net could easily be added at the bottom in smaller font.

I think I like the sans serif font. But since the graphic is composed entirely of curved lines, it's possible that a rounded san serif font might work equally well, or better. Perhaps something like the slanted and rounded letters in my third selection, below.

On the other handed, the juxtaposition of curved lines and squared letters adds a touch of visual tension that might give the entire design a bit more "pop". If I were deciding I think I would want to see examples of both types.

The one below I like, except for the light colored outline. And if printed on light backgroud, such as a white tee-shirt darker print would be needed. I would like it more it used a sans serif font. In my own documents I used serif fonts for body text, but complementary sans serif fonts for titles, captions etc

This one has some nice elements, but I would simplify the graphic, using something like the palm trees and hammock. I like this font.

I’m a minimalist when it comes to clothing. The only time I wear anything other than black shirts is on vacation and then it’s usually just a white shirt haha.

If that’s the case, maybe offer 2-3 designs and let people choose? I’ll take this one in a medium HAH, I even like the color of the background for a shirt color. View attachment 71753
i just cant even read that text outside the TUG letters!

I completely get what you’re saying about “vacation” vs travel. But I also feel like the TS industry has changed so much and the emphasis is now on travel. Yes there is a focus on Relaxing vacations but there are more and more options for seeing more destinations with the flexibility of shorter stays.

What about all of the TS owners who aren’t beach people? A hammock and palm trees means nothing to the TS owner who uses their TS for ski weeks.

i agree, i like simple as well! and the hammock one is fantastic (although im truly not crazy about the font there)

even after all these years, folks STILL prefer that original clipart image from the 1990s! something to be said for simple and basic!

however there are some folks who straight up want to be brash and bold and scream TUG from the rooftops (mostly in sales presentations) and in that situation I think a more bold and or flashy logo would be a choice for many!

i just cant even read that text outside the TUG letters!
This one is a bit better. Again, I’m a minimalist and would wear this if it were a design on the upper left pocket. Maybe I’ll make it myself lol

yes, thats more readable, for me id choose a different font for the large TUG logo.

that is one possible winner where id probably scroll thru 100 different fonts before something just screamed at me "thats it"

Let’s not forget those who like mountain destinations haha

That's an excellent point, and I thought about that when I posted. One reason why I opted for the hammock is because that no longer ties the image to the beach, It could be two palms trees anywhere. But it certainly doesn't convey winter activities, and the palm trees suggest tropical. One option could some expanded graphic, still kept simple, that shows more locations. Something like mountains, a representation of a city, and palm tree beach/hammock.

As I said I like simplicity and this is more complex. But complex is OK if it effectively adds information. (Minard's graphic map of Napoleon's Russia campaign being the classic example.) And in this case, if one wanted to link TUG to more than tropical locations, then that could be graphic.

I completely get what you are saying. But just speaking personally, I came across a T-shirt or a banner that displayed TUG with an internet address and a graphic showing luggage and an airplane, I I went to the site I would be expecting to see something similar to the Points Guy. And if I weren't interested in learning more about travel, I might not bother investigating further. But if I wanted to know more about resorts, a shirt that conveys "vacation locations" might be attractive.

Travel information is only one of however many forums there are on the BBS. And then there are all of the resort reviews and timeshare advice features off the main page. We are much more about resorts than about travel.

one requirement is that it does need to say Timeshare Users Group, TUG, and tug2.net as part of the logo itself.
I think that the bigger initial "draw" is tugbbs.net or tugbbs.com. I think of tug2.net as the more commercial side. I think of tugbbs as being more informative and more helpful to timeshare owners.

Respectfully, your cousin, Bruce

FWIW - many years ago I had some involvement with maintaining the advice section. I recall creating a "washed" version of the logo below (without the question marks) to use as a background for the advice page. Below are also snips of how the Advice page looked before and after.

ok first draft submission:

thoughts?
I like this. Colors and crisp and clean. My first thought however was you need a stylized tugboat, a simple line that’s not quite finished and your TUG could go inside, the required text underneath. I’m just a retired copy writer, not an artist though. But I know the Geicko gecko and the Li-Mu Emu are successful memory joggers for people. So the tug tugboat could be a winner someday.

ha, i dont hate this idea at all! will see what we can come up with to throw into the hat for folks to vote on!

id also agree that the beach/palm trees/etc are a more universal symbol of "vacation" than the airplane/luggage....

I just thought the logo looked nice, and id certainly wear it on a pocket tee or similar! (not that I wouldnt wear just about any of the items suggested sofar...all are better than my ideas!)

will also say that im happy to keep this thread going as we get more ideas!

I was contacted by one member who has a child who is studying graphic design in college and might want to whip up something for a project!

have another party who does hand drawn artwork on the side working on another...there are so many more talented folks out there and I am glad I reached out!

I think we will have a wonderful selection of items to make available to members (and for giveaways) for 2023!

updated version of submission one....more jacksonville jaguar and less miami dolphins =D

yep, that is certainly a great modern take on the old beloved 90s clipart!

My only NIT is that it mixes serif and sans serif font. I think all lettering should be in the same font family. (My personal preference is sans serif, and I would try it with and without a rounded font.

ah, you mean the TUG int he center? honestly didnt notice it was different till you mentioned it.

font matching, made some more modifications! like how this is shaping up!

actually think the dome text isnt quite centered, but this is easily my favorite sofar.

Here's an off the wall idea.
Incorporate a QR code (square full of bars and dots) that points to the TUG website that could be scanned from a medium distance. It should be on the back to avoid causing awkwardness. The web page it points to could be a special welcome page for newbies.

would a qr code even read on fabric? id think that would be quite a challenge!

like the idea though!
