WE'll be at Timberlodge in March for our first family snow trip :)

Haven't been to Tahoe in a while. Would love to get some ideas for places to eat that are family friendly.

TIA!

Google Maps

Jen,

Bring up www.maps.google.com and search for Marriott’s Timber Lodge

Click A and zoom in on its location (by clicking the + sign); you can read the reviews.

Now type in Restaurants and do a search.

You can click each restaurant and read reviews.

Click on directions and get driving directions.

Google maps is also available on your cell phone.

We love South Lake Tahoe.

P.S.
Click and hold to drag map around. Click Satellite to see a great view. Click Hybrid to see satellite image and road map together.

When you do a search, the map in view is searched - move it around or zoom in or out to change search area.

Click on all the links - most places have their own web site with lots of pictures and a menu.

P.P.S.
Zoom out to see all of Lake Tahoe and search for Timeshares - if you want to do a bunch of sales presentations all the information is right there. Remember Maps shows you about 10 major search results - zoom in for more selections.

Try Timeshare Resort for just resorts.

Click "Details" instead of "address" for much more info - pricing per nite.

We have personally eaten at each of the following:

Sit-down within walking distance:
Applebee's
Hardrock (in Harveys)
Carriage House (also in Harvey's). Cafe open 24 hrs. We go there for breakfast (fun to play Keno while eating).

Take out (both next door to the Timber Lodge):
Wolfgang Puck's Express
Baja Fresh

Within 10 Min. Drive;
Chevy's (down by the lake) Good Mexican food chain. Consistent quality.
Chart House (on the side of the moutain, great view). Perhaps more adult oriented and pricey for a family, but we love it. The chain has been around for YEARS (Reservations recommended)

Adult:
Sage House (in Harvey's). Recognized by many to be THE best steak house in Tahoe. BUT...not for kids as it is NOT cheap. I would not take the grand kids there, but my wife and I LOVE it (reservations required).

Have fun. We are going back in Aug.

Timber Lodge has a fun restaurant in the building called Fire and Ice. If you are a Marriott owner (either at TL or exchanging in), they will give you an owner-designated key card that gives you a 10% discount at the restaurant. It's sort of like an Americanized Korean bbq: you pick your raw meat and veggies and take the bowl to the cooking area, where they grill everything for you. Rice, tortillas, and salad are included. Cost is about $20 pp for all you can eat. It's great for families and groups because there's something for everyone, it's different than the usual restaurant, and it has a noisy, fun atmosphere (there's a bar there as well).

My favorite casino buffet is Pacifica Seafood in Harvey's. It's about $30 pp and has a very nice assortment of foods, including all you can eat Dungeness crab legs (they put big bowls in the center of the table to take the shells away...when I eat there, they have to empty it out 3-4 times, lol). The restaurant is located close to the entrance facing TL.

For breakfast, there's a great restaurant called Bert's located on 50 as you come into town, before the Y. They remodeled within the last 1-2 years and get really busy in the mornings (I think they're open from 6 am to 2 pm), but the meals are worth it. Lots of stuff on the menu, decent prices, and very hearty high-quality food.

Fire and Ice

Yes, Fire and ice is very cool and yes HOT HOT HOT
In March you may still have snow so plan ahead or go early. Ski bums enjoy the outdoor fires with drinks and those less hearty enjoy the indoor bar. The Mongolian BBQ style BBQ is fun and great food. You may need to go a few times to figure out how to get your moneys worth. BBQ bean sprouts cook to nothing. Now, BBQ shrimp and scollops that's another story. Look over the things available and plan accordingly. They give you one bowl to fill up and BUILD IT UP WITH WALLS. bAMBOO SHOOTS ARE WALLS TO BUILD UP THE BOWL, NOT ROUGHAGE! We love the place.

We hear there will be a FIRE AND ICE to be built at the Maui Marriott. Now THAT peaks my interest!

Thanks Chris!

Your photos are great. Tahoe looks just beautiful in the summer. We can't wait for our trip next month and hopefully we can visit again one summer :)

Well, you have either already gone, are there now, are will go soon. Regardless you should have had a LOT of snow...quite a month of March for Tahoe.

Please let us know how your stay was.

Thanks,

Steve
