You can join TUG and get a ton of reviews on ALL timeshares!!!! Or just do a search on Timber Lodge in this forum for other numerous threads on TL.

As for that time of year I have no idea regarding activities although I know it starts to get pretty cold...

Depends On What You Like To Do

I went there last year a week or two before Thanksgiving. I had a good time but a few disappointments:

The Gondola was closed. They were not going to open it until there was enough snow for skiing (even though they kept telling us it would be open in a few days – it wasn’t). I'm going the first week of December this year and I hope there will be snow.

Other activities were closed. The skating rink was going to open Thanksgiving week. Some of the hiking trails were closed. The beach area seemed deserted. The horseback riding stables were closed.

You need to determine what you enjoy. If you plan to spend your time in the casinos and the Jacuzzi then November is great (there were no lines for the casino buffets when I went). If the Gondola is really important to you then you should check to see if it will be open.
The best part of going to Timber Lodge in November/early December is that Interval International has really cheap rates (I got my one-bedroom for $299 for the week).

My family and I were there last month. Of course Aug. is a big tour month so everything is open. We really enjoyed the resort, the location is right next to the gondola and shopping at Heavenly. The concierge was extremely helpful. We did the ts tour and booked a reservation at Edgewood country club, as per the cons's advice. Wow what a great view of the sunset and an amazing meal. They had one three course all inclusive meal, including three seperate glasses of wine to compliment each course for $55/person. The cert was for $100, so the extra was only about $40, but well worth it. We did a boat tour to Emerald bay, also booked by the cons, $40/person and well worth it, There was some enclosed area on the boat and a small deli lunch. I think even with cold air, if you bundle up it will be beautiful. There are excellent bike pathes up by Camp Richardson, about a 10 minute drive from the resort. We rented our bikes at Anderson's which was rec. by the cons. again, But this might be seasonal. There is a decent workout room at the resort, and about 5 hot tubs out by the pool. Harrah's and Harvey's casinos are a one block walk. Our rental, from an owner included valet parking for one car, if you have to pay its $19/day, I think. There is a restaurant in the resort called Fire and Ice, we didn't eat there but it was fairly crowded. They serve Mongolian style food, where the food is cooked in the middle of a group of tables, kind of like Beni Hana. I really can't speak much for the weather, but I'm guessing pretty cold and prob no snow yet. If the Gondola is open, the first stop is the lookout point with amazing views, don't forget your camera, and be sure to bundle up.

We found this vacation to be very relaxing, no real pressure to do a lot. If you have never been to Lake Tahoe, like us, you will be in awe of the beauty.

Have a great trip,
Thomas, NC:whoopie:

Timber Lodge is beautiful. We stayed at the Embassy Suites next door last summer and visited Timber Lodge. The location is just about as perfect as it can be. It is right next to the gondola and about a 1-2 minute walk from the casinos on the Nevada side of the border. I have included a photo of Lake Tahoe as seen from the observation deck. This was taken in August 2007.

You're in limbo as far as the weather goes in early November. It can get pretty cold by then but the snow hasn't started yet ( usually ). I've spent some time up there in mid-October a couple of times and have had nice days but cold mornings and evenings. Should be nice for sight seeing, but the water activities will probably be shut down and the winter activities will not be under way. That being said, Tahoe is one of my favorite places on earth. Have a good time.

thanks all. We are really not winter sports people (except my teenage daughter), so i think we will wait until next summer to try out this resort. I'm hoping to use my AC which will expire in July. I'm sure we will enjoy driving around the lake, bike riding, water sports, and sightseeing. Does the gondola operate in the summer too, or is it just for the skiers?

The gondola is open during the summer season. You can google it by looking into the activities at South Shore Lake Tahoe. It will give you the hours and price for the gondola.

Does anyone have a resort map for Timber Lodge? There are no photos or map posted on the "view images" in the resort review section. Thanks.

TL is a great place to stay in the summer. Everything is open around the lake in the summer and I think it's the best time of the year to visit there. Don't know how AC's work but it might be hard to get a week with it at TL in July or August.

Last time we stayed there they didn't give us one. It really isn't that big either...

When we were there in July they gave us a one page 'map' that was basically a room locator, but I'm sure we tossed it.

Basically the complex is in the shape of a big "S" with rooms on both sids all along the "S" (yes, an over simplication, but pretty close for general discussion). The entrance/lobby would be in the lower opening on the left, and the pool/spas in the upper opening. The lower part faces the street and the top faces the mountain. Interior rooms on the upper section face the pool (best rooms in my opinion). Depending on location on the "S", exterior rooms can face the gondola, the transportation lot, the mountain, the street, or the casinos. They have managed to divide this big "S" into 7 different buildings, and the 4 digit room numbers start with the building number you are in.

You also want to try to avoid the ground floor (privacy reasons as some windows are right on the sidewalk) or upper floor (sloping roof takes away wall space on the inside).

We stayed in building 7 in August and it was very nice. I think this is the newest building, almost new, with flat screen TV's. We were on 4th floor overlooking the pool.
