As we approach Remembrance Day and Veterans Day on November 11th, and as the number of World War II veterans still alive continues to dwindle, it is indeed important to remember the battles fought and the sacrifices made.
The list above does help accomplish that, yet at the same time it unfortunately seems to suffer a bit from some sloppy editing, IMO. I quickly noticed four items. There may be others.
For instance, Operation Overlord was the Allied code name for what would become the Battle of Normandy. Yet they are listed separately with wildly different numbers. Even If they intended Operation Overlord to represent just the D-Day landings, the number of troops and casualties are more than for the entire Battle of Normandy!
For the Battle of Sicily, they use a photo of US troops in the victory parade down the Champs Élysées after the Battle of Paris. Not even the same country!
For the Battle of Britain, they show Allied casualties of only 966. Official British records list 1,542 killed and 422 wounded, for a total of 1,964, without including the 55,000 civilian dead and wounded on the homefront during the Battle.
Finally, they do list the larger and more devastating Battle of Singapore, but leave out the earlier Battle of Hong Kong. The Battle of Hong Kong had total military casualties of over 7,000, plus an additional 7,000 civilian casualties, as well as 10,000 troops captured. It involved over 40,000 troops on both sides, numbers that would place it around number 26 or 27 on the list.
