Not wanting to be out-done by the other states, Hawaii hits a new high today:
The number of cases doubled in the last week, I feel like we have seen this movie before. If it continues like this (and I am not saying it will) it means Hawaii will add 63,000 new cases in 8 weeks. If they did not open when they virtually had no cases, I am curious to see the discussions going forward. I should get ready to wave good bye to my December trip.

Yep, new records everyday. Maui’s Mayor wants to quarantine inter-island travel again but the Lt. Governor says not to since new cases aren’t coming from that sector. Hawaii’s Hotel industry said that they are ready for visitors now.

Lots of discussion but it sounds like the Governor will shut down the bars for three weeks. He said that would give them time to have a better plan in place to police the bars to verify they are complying with distancing and masks.

With 144 new cases on Tuesday, at the current rate of infection, Hawaii warns that they will max out their hospitals in 7-10 days.

Oahu’s Mayor just closed the beaches and parks. They are going to be stricter on enforcement also according to the mayor and Police chief.

Shoot! Just as we are finishing our quarantine period tomorrow. We were thinking of using our limited TS points (Vistana or Hyatt) on neighbor island in early Sept. Looks like I'll have to find a trade for Koolina or Hilton. I have HGVC points too.

Hmm , are the beach lagoons at Koolina or Hilton considered public??
I understand swimming is allowed but no lounging on the sand.

The quarantine starts 08-11-20 with no end date. Yes, you can swim but no lounging on the beach.

Quarantine extended to Oct. 1
“Effective tomorrow at midnight for 28 days there can be no social gatherings indoors or outdoors on the island of Oahu,” Caldwell said. “The requirement is that if you can work from home, we want you to work form home.”

The following restrictions will be in place, Caldwell said:

>> No parties larger than 5 in private or public setting.

>> Face coverings required in malls, whether the mall is enclosed or not.

>> For in-person spiritual services, face coverings are mandated at all times with no singing or wind instruments allowed.

>> Restaurants are limited to seating groups no larger than 5 people.

>> All social gatherings at offices are prohibited.

Caldwell said outdoor attractions, recreational commercial boating activities and water parks will remain open for groups of no more than 5 people.

Beaches, parks, hiking trails and bars remain closed, he added.

In additon, Gov. David Ige announced that the state’s pre-travel COVID-19 testing program expected to begin on Sept. 1 will be delayed until at least Oct. 1.
