I wouldn't at all trust that what's happening in Japan with COVID won't somehow infiltrate the athletes' facilities. If I were them I'd be reasonably concerned, and grateful that the IOC has made it possible for them to share those concerns when they think their health is being compromised.

I don't have a problem with trying to protect the athletes. Where I think the drama will enter is the abuse that could be attempted to remove competitors. Google russia and doping. Google russia and ice skating judging scandal.
