We tent camped at Disney World more than 50 years ago. We had 2 tents we'd borrowed from a service at my husbands Air Force base in Georgia for our group that included 4 young kids and 6 adults. The campground was very nice with good transportation to Magic Kingdom. We enjoyed some entertainment in the evenings at the campground and cooked most of our meals. It was the only way any of us could afford a trip like that, so we thought it was quite luxurious!

Yes, we're spoiled now too.

Yup…and it looks exactly like most of the campsites that are ‘occupied’ by Disneyphiles. 8 people get length of stay ADRs and fast passes for a pittance.

That is… a poorly executed advertisement.

And I always thought that TV’s MASH were roughing it. Who knew they were at the Campsites at Fort Wilderness.

Fast Passes? I didn't think those exist anymore?

I wonder what a tent costs per night.

Sadly, with sky high Disney park and food pricing, it is probably the only many many families can now afford to visit Disney.

Pardon, Lightning Lane passes. But WDW ditched the Genie+ 'reserve everything the day of' system and we're now back to 7 days + Length Of Stay if you have an on-property reservation vs 3 days every morning if you aren't.

Thus I expect we are back to the days of empty campsites booked by high flyers who prefer to stay at JW Bonnet Creek (or similar properties) but still want all the Disney Resort ADR and LL advantages.

Lightning Lane still costs money, though, right?

Yes

If you stay onsite you can book 3 LL passes per day 7-days in advance. If you are staying off-site you can only book 3-days in advance. But either way you have to pay for the privilege now. No free passes like the old fast pass system.

There are also still the separate single use LL passes that are not-included with the per-purchased multi-pass passes for the top attractions.

The entire system is a convoluted mess!

Greed is alive and well at Disney.

Michael Eisner always wanted only rich people in the parks, but according to a friend of mine, a member of TUG who sells Disney tickets and accommodations, people who really cannot afford to pay are putting their trips on credit cards. Then the credit card gets 22% interest while they attempt to pay off their trips.

Poor choices with CC is on the consumer, not on Disney. Disney has always been expensive so not for everyone. It has gotten even more expensive but the principles have not changed.

That’s a real MASH unit, not the TV one - which one? And how did you come by the photo?

PS did anyone read the book? The script writers just used it as a jumping off point for the movie and TV series, of course.

Can you just IDK wait in line? I guess I haven't been to Disney since 2012, and so all the LL and days in advance - I've never scheduled my amusement part rides before in my life. Of course, I'm not really interested in the rides, but if I go some might be.

Yep, and I don't understand paying for something one cannot afford.

We don't usually do the LL thing. We wait in lines. The twins will have fun at the Pooh ride in line. They love to play in that area, they are almost 3 for our next trip. Generally, little kids don't really understand having to wait in lines, they get antsy. We may end up biting the bullet and paying for LL. The kids can afford it.

Yes, you can wait in line! Although some rides have a Virtual Queue, where you use your phone to get a “Boarding Group” and “stand in line” virtually (usually a number of hours) until that BG is called, then you stand in line physically (sometimes up to an hour) before actually riding.

Sure. (Except for the very newest rides which often operate without a stand by line for the first few months) But many people who don't go to Disney often want to maximize the number of things they can do in a day and are willing to pay the extra money to save time.

I noticed after the fact that this was actually a real MASH unit. I was wondering if anyone would notice.

I found a random picture that I thought was the TV MASH. The picture was on a website that shows it was actually the 8055th.

Wait. A for-profit company wants to maximize its profits? Get right out of town!

More seriously: No one has to go to Disney World. It's perfectly possible to live a complete life and never set foot in Orlando.
Count me in that camp :)

To clarify, if you have a on property reservation you can book LLs up to 21 days in advance (7 days + 14 days Length of Stay) for the max number of guests allowed at your accommodation.

Yes if you are staying 14 days.

You can start booking 7-days in advance of your check-in date when staying on property (or at the partner hotels that qualify)

Back in 2019, we planned a trip to Orlando. There were 10 of us (2 of them were under 3) and we decided it would be fun to spend a day at Hollywood Studios. On site guests had a 2 hour early entry to Hollywood Studios when Galaxy's edge first opened.

I ended up booking a campsite, and added all of us to the reservation, I even got all of us magic bands (which one of them still worked for our most recent trip).

I paid $63.00 total including tax. That was probably the most value that I've ever got out of $63.00 at Disney.

A campsite where you pitch your own tent is under $90/night. After all, there are no amenities at the site, so campers pay less.

TS
Maybe before tax, a couple months of the year. Tent sites do at least have electric and water connections. A few years ago, I think I paid around $120 for a night in December in a tent site. And the campsites rarely have discounts. My sister always says she'd rather spend another $20 or so and stay at All-Stars. Looking at the Mousesavers page, it looks like tent sites with tax range from $80 to $210 per night. So this December, I will be staying at SSR with my SSR resale points for cheaper than a Ft. Wilderness tent site ($205 per night for that time of year). I love Ft. Wilderness, but the pricing is steep.
