I live in the Western New York area. And, I agree that Allegheny is a wonderful place to visit for fall foliage. But, there are other places as well.
Letchworth State Park is also quite beautiful. The river that runs through it creates some spectacular scenery year round. The falls there are one of the most photographed in the area. There's also a lovely restaurant right in the park.
Zoar Valley is another place. The Genesee River creates a sizable gorge with foliage on both sides of the river. It's a bit treacherous though because a few of the trails are a bit steep. But the scenery, especially during the fall, is very impressive.
As mentioned by
@Miss Marty Ellicottville is an interesting place to visit. Excellent restaurants, antique shops, and nightly entertainment. Plus, when winter comes some of the best skiing.
