I've been searching for a resort in Cancun using filter "ALL-INCLUSIVE NOT REQUIRED".

Today subject resort came up with a mix of comments and the best I could tell is a $99 per day resort fee and NON all-inclusive. Has anyone run into this before?

I def don't want the cost of all-inclusive but might consider a $99 fee for a 2 BR unit.

I put the unit on hold.

The AI for exchangers is optional at the Royal Cancun. The Royal's web site says this:

•Timeshare owners with different companies outside Royal Resorts who exchange to vacation at The Royal Sands and The Royal Haciendas through an international exchange company must purchase the all-inclusive package. In the case of The Royal Cancun, exchange guests who are not Royal Resorts members will have optional access to the REFINE All-Inclusive package.
REFINE All-Inclusive Package Exchanger Rates:
•Adults 18 years or older = $99 USD per person per day
(so I agree that is "the fee")

Two other Cancun Royal Resorts, Royal Caribbean and Islander, do not have AI, optional or otherwise.

As Buceo says, Caribbean & Islander have no AI...Wife and I will be at Caribbean 3/5 to 12 and Islander 3/12 to 19...These sister resorts are located next to one another and quite a distance from Royal Cancun.....RC is KM 5... Caribbean and Islander are KM 17....

Too many great restaurants in CUN to even think about AI.....JMO

ps...There are free shuttles to all Royals except Haciendas (Play del Carmen)

pss...We stay in 2 bdrm units

Not to belabor the point, but just to be certain. We will NOT need to pay any additional fees as long as we do not choose all-inclusive option.

If you do not choose "all inclusive" of course you will pay for your own food and beverages, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, and whatever you take from your mini-bar (which is in every villa) And you would pay your own tips and taxes, if any.

I don't see that the Spa (at Royal Sands) or several gyms, or transportation to and from the airport, or to Royal Haciendas, are included in the "all inclusive." For me, these are just other reasons not to choose "all inclusive."

I think everybody has free Kids Club. Everybody has free wi-fi, and free sailboats, free bicycles, free tennis, snorkelling equipment, etc.

Activities and entertainments, daily activities and evening entertainment are free for everybody.

note: I usually spend less than $99 per day PER PERSON if we have one or two meals in our villa; or about $99 per day if we eat out, three meals at various excellent CanCun restaurants, including trips to the Royal Haciendas or Playa del Carmen.
