Yesterday the White House's COVID-19 team of health experts issued a grim prediction: before it is over, the virus will claim somewhere between 100,000-240,000 lives. As I write this, the total is now a little over 4,000. This means that--if we take the midpoint of the White House team's estimate--we're a little over 2.5% of the eventual magnitude of this tragedy. We are just now feeling the outer bands of the hurricane that is about to break over us.
