Came across this very interesting article on the effects the Mighty Five campaign had (and continues to have) on Utah tourism and the effect on state and national parks. Definitely worth a read...

I recall our visit to Zion a few years ago. It was in July - and we knew it would be hot - but I was still surprised to see the number of tourists at the park that week given the heat.
Just goes to show there are a lot of folks who have to travel when they can - not necessarily when conditions will be better (or even ideal).
I am so looking forward to the time we can travel when we want and not when work schedules allow precisely to visit the rest of the Mighty Five.

Very interesting article. We dearly love the canyon country and have spent many marvelous weeks hiking red rock trails. Alas, aging bodies have kept us from doing this for quite some time now, so we have not experienced the throngs at places where we once had no problem carving out our own private spaces. Maybe it's a good thing we can't do this any longer ...

It’s my favorite place to visit on the planet, right after Hawaii. In all four seasons.

Beautiful state. We were there in Sept for a week and despite the extreme heat, it was crowded. But we did everything super early in the morning as much as possible and hit the resort pool in the afternoon. Was glad we at least got to see two of the national parks and some national monuments and state parks.

I've been to Utah twice for vacations - both centered around volunteering at Best Friends in Kanab, and then working in the national parks. Beautiful part of the country and if you love animals, there is really not a more inspiring place than Best Friends. Truly magical.
