The Most Important Album of 1968 Wasn’t The White Album. It Was Beggars Banquet.

I alway like the Rolling Stones more than the Beatles. Never a big Beatles fan.

... because everyone knows In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was the most important album of 1968.
The song was so long because the band was so drunk/stoned when they recorded it, they didn't know when to stop. ;) o_O:ROFLMAO:

Sympathy for the Devil has outlasted "Hard Day's Night"
C’mon Brett, only three years but two different eras musically. It hasn’t outlasted:

A Day in the Life
Penny Lane
Strawberry Fields
Lucy in the Sky
Let it Be
Sgt. Pepper’s
Blackbird
Back in the USSR
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Rocky Raccoon
Yer Blues
Revolution (both versions)
Something
The Long and Winding Road

I’m a Stones fan, too, and I’m not saying all these Beatles songs are better than Sympathy for the Devil, just that they still hold up just as well in comparison.

I thought Blood Sweat & Tears, 'Child Is Father to the Man' was a better album overall and more innovative than either of them, and Who's 'Tommy' was released in some areas late that year.

Timing issue. Beggers Banquet was released in December 1968. Led Zeppelin I was released on Jan 13, 1969 - one month later. Another truly landmark album, but 13 days after the cutoff. . . .

I always thought The Beatles White album was overrated. As a double album, there were a lot of filler songs. I thought the only great songs were 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and 'Blackbird'. I think their previous albums were a lot better.

I graduated high school in 1968. We were truly blessed with a surfeit of wonderful music in the late 60s and early 70s in particular. I have always been a huge fan of The Beatles, but also The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Iron Butterfly and The Who, amongst so many others.

I also don't think The White Album (or The Double White, as we referred to it here at the time) was the best album produced by The Beatles, but it was iconic for many reasons and tremendously successful commercially. I'm not sure though that I would place Beggars Banquet ahead of it. Just my take!

Yeah, that’s kind of the purpose of message boards.

its like arguing about if the Model T is the greatest car or the 1969 Mustang. Of course, both are stupid. The 1936 Bugatti Atlantic coupe is obviously the best daily driver of the bunch.

Ok, I’m not qualified for this one. I know nothing about cars except that I need one to get to all my doctor’s appointments! :D

Me too except I do like the Beatles. The Rolling Stones Some Girls album is my favorite Rolling Stones album. While technically not the Beatles, Paul's Ram album is my favorite Beatles sounding album.
