The Late Show With Stephen Colbert...

My 3 sentence review:
In the beginning, I thought he was channeling Conan (Conan is better at Conan).
But he settled down, did that homage to David Letterman... and then I dozed off.
Only to wake with "Jeb!" on the screen... and promptly fell asleep, again.

I'm undecided but mostly not impressed. Yet. Because he's too talented to not get better.

The ad/sponsor stuff went on too long. The Oreo/Trump stuff was too fabricated for what should have been an easy humor target. The George Clooney stuff was too scripted - I like interviews to be "live" and George Clooney lives a fascinating life so there's no lack of material. The Jeb Bush stuff was the best of the non-music stuff, although Stephen needs to learn to let his guests answer the questions without leading. The music stuff was fantastic.

The Jimmy Fallon stuff was odd. It's impressive they crossed network lines and I LOVED the Jon Stewart pic in Stephen's locker, but Jimmy's locker pic of Colbert was too ... I don't know, something odd. (I had to rewind to see the pic a second time because with a quick look my thought was, "why does Jimmy have a pic of younger Corbin Bernsen in his locker?!?!")

It's mostly past my bedtime, but I watched the monologue. Missed Bush. Mostly liked it. It was enough like The Colbert Report to keep me interested. Liked the music. I might record it for viewing at a more civilized hour- at least for a while.

Like others have said, after 9 months wait, he had more material than time.

I find it highly unlikely that the big network censors/sponsors/etc are going to allow him the same free range he (and stewart) had on comedy central.

There were more ads for that show than an election campaign. Completely turned me off.

Cheers

I thought Colbert was off a bit on his timing and didn't seem to be in his groove. I'm sure he'll get better, but Fallon is still well in the lead in my book. I watched Fallon in his beginning days, and felt he did much better. I was happy to see Colbert being his original self during the show. He'll have no problem bringing the same type of humor to the Late Show.

P.S. I like the music on Fallon's show better also. Colbert's music seemed a little slow at times.

Opening night mis-steps, very uneven. Think & hope it will improve. Stephen has the talent.
Will be interesting to see Trump's appearance on the show.

I had my doubts about Fallon, but he's improved IMHO.

I like Seth Myers a lot. Funny, but more even, less "zany".

I like Kimmel, too.

Growing pains ahead ?

caught the first part of his show tonight after the football game, sure looked like an intro to his old show vs "the late show" to me.
