Talk about great timing , middle of the C19 lockdown, this series on Michael Jordan has been awesome, and will spark the great debate on who’s the Greatest Of All Time! G.O.A.T
I’m from the Cleveland area, pushing 60 so I don’t know much about players over 50 years ago.
What Michael did in Chicago , for Chicago in my eyes will put him on top of the mountain forever, or until someone duplicates this one town dynasty.
6 rings , maybe could have been 8 straight if he didn’t feel like he had nothing else to prove and go play baseball.
Could have maybe been 9 or who knows if the GM didn’t announce the firing of the coach at the end of the season in the middle of the 2nd three peat. Who does that? Who would allow that? Unbelievable really. How did he not get tarred and feathered?
They built a team together learning to play with each other. Michael became the Alpha made everybody around him play better. Than comes the GREAT coach, ending up completing Michael allowing him to realize that you need a team to win, trust the team!
5 on1 will lose every time!
Michael had some VHS tapes about this exact transformation of dominance. Wisdom of learning from someone else’s mistakes is priceless. He had to sacrifice statistics , it worked! That’s on the great coach.
This was the last years of players loyalty to each other and the teams - oh and look at the toughness (dirty) play, truly a different time.
This is just my opinion thru my eyes. I’m not a crazy sport fan.
Will be fun to get others perspective.
Being from Cleveland , we have (HAD) the King - twice! All statistics at the end he probably will overcome. He is good. It’s all about him.
He could have done this hometown dynasty thing and have knocked Michael off the mountain. This what’s best for me attitude will forever haunt him.
Watching him in Cleveland with all the high hopes as the seasons went by he had taken it on his shoulders to win, with a great team around him they should have but didn’t capitalize.
During the normal season the team was unstoppable, but when the playoffs hit he played different. He put it all on his shoulders and it became 5 on 1 and he lost. Year after year the same thing. If they would have played like they did during the normal season in my opinion we would have been at the top, Labron James needed to watch Michael’s VHS tapes, learn, but he is going to do it his way.
Let’s look at the coach, Labron runs his team. A good coach makes a big difference, he never let’s this happen, even today, he is in control and it’s a downfall in his overall outlook.
Now The king left Cleveland and joined a really good team , now a super team, and won 2 Championships, no 3 peat mind you, but he did learn a little on playing with others better.
Then he came home, back to Cleveland, wanting to get a championship at home. Finally did get the championship at home with a little bit of help from our friend, Draymond Green. Funny part is when he was out for game 5, I new we were going to win. Game changing moment, he will have to live with his stupid moment effecting the outcome for the rest of his life.
Oh and who made the game winning shot, not Labron.
LJ would not give more than a 1 year commitment in Cleveland this 2nd time around. He held all the cards, he is in total control. Who in their right minds would want to commit to your team signing a contract for years not knowing if LJ is going to be around the next year leaving you high and dry.
Labron James left the 2nd time feeling good about getting Cleveland A championship not able to get it done against the new Super Team, joining LA. He is getting older now, shattering records all along the way. He is good, but I don’t care about the Heat or LA.
Oh, he gave Magic a 4 to 5 year commitment, should be a game changer, we will see.
Let’s look at Golden State, what a team put together that jelled all at the same time. The next dynasty with an incredible low budget young team. Pretty much unstoppable, but you can’t fix stupid, Cleveland takes advantage of a moment, and steals the championship. This team could have been it with the Alpha emerging. A team that won so many games in a year, played so well together , with such a low payroll now somehow gets Keven Durant, wow!
Because of KD, the rest of the team suffered and didn’t play the same. They had so many weapons they were unstoppable. They did not 3 peat, and things exploded in front of them. I think if they did not get KD the sky was the limit for this team of self made superstars. Everybody would have loved Golden State, and what they could have been.
That’s why my vote is Michael Jordan, he made mistakes, they all do, but he was GREAT, loyal to his town, willing to adapt , and respected coaching, he was a whole package.
I respect that , loyalty is really important to me. What Chicago had is the envy of every town.
A bunch of greats teaming together and winning a championship means nothing to me, but A bunch of players coming together as a team and becoming a Champion
Now that’s something to see / be part of !!
Kinda sickening to see a handful of great teams , and a bucketful of teams that stink.
I wish they had HARD SALARY CAPS on all sports teams forcing players to spread out.
All teams would equally Have a chance to rise and win, or at least have a chance.
