Hi Everyone,

Has anyone been to this show in Maui? If you have did you like it and did you feel it was worth $80 per person?

The Luau includes:

  • Free valet parking
  • A lavish all-you-can-eat buffet dinner including teriyaki Maui Cattle steaks, shoyu chicken, macadamia crusted MAHI, assorted noodle dishes and salads plus a wonderful desert selection.
  • Beverage options include: soft drinks, juices, open bar with mai tais and blended tropical’s, two types of beer, red and white wine and champagne.

Since this is our first time in Maui, we want to go to an awesome Luau….

thanks everyone...

Is this the one on Kauai? It's okay. I would go again, but Smith's is better food and the grounds are beautiful.

The Old Lahaina Luau is considered the best Luau on Maui: https://www.oldlahainaluau.com/

It's fun to go once, but if you've already been to one luau, it's not worth the $$$ to go again.

-Luau food is served as a buffet - nothing special - not worth what they charge

-Luaus are not ideal for children who will quickly tire of dancing and music and sitting for a long time and food they won't like.

-They are so touristy

YMMV

Sorry to be so negative - if you have never been to a Luau, that's the one I'd go to. But think twice about taking kids.

*Like everyone else, we did go to a couple luaus when we first started going to Hawaii, but don't go any more, now that we go to Hawaii yearly.

I agree with DeniseM about Old Lahaina Luau being the best luau as far as being the most authentic Hawaiian luau. This means no fire dancing as that is not Hawaiian. If you are taking kids, I recommend OLL. If it is an all adults party, I like Feast at Lele which is a Polynesian luau and has table service unlike most luau.

I think an authentic luau is a wonderful experience for a newbie to Hawaii and OLL certainly fills that bill. There is some very interesting history woven into the show and dances and pre-show there are lots of arts/crafts, photo ops and the imu ceremony (where they remove the pig from the imu ). Both these luau are in beautiful beachfront settings in Lahaina with fabulous sunset views. They will be more than $80 pp though.

My thoughts are if you've never gone to a luau you should go to one. Just set your expectations correctly. Denise has pretty well summed it up.

I've done a couple, with my family, and none of them want to do another one.

Now if we were invited to a true, authentic luau, not a commercial one, that would be different.

I believe the Old Lahaina Luau is fabulous. We have been maybe four times. We do not go any more if we are there alone, but we always take guests there and it is still very enjoyable every time. Feast at Lele is excellent also, but it is more expensive that Old Lahaina Luau and it is Polynesian rather than Hawaiian.

Thank you and everyone else for the recommendations to go to Old Lahaina Luau. Does anyone know if you can score a discount on these tickets?

thanks

Sugarcube, I do not know of any discounted tickets to OLL other than buying in advance from their website. A good luau is pricey as it is all you can eat and all you can drink (alcohol). Plus the show is pretty awesome as is the beach setting. Maybe someone else knows of a discount that I do not.

If you are going to do OLL, I would book as soon as possible as they assign seating by seniority of the rez.

Old Lahaina Luau is the best luau on all of the islands. The food is good, and the grounds are beautiful.

Thank you for the link, I had seen this GC over on the website and that is why I started the thread to determine if this was a good Luau to attend… Have you by chance been to this one? Thanks again for your help

About 8 or 9 years ago we went to the Old Lahaina Luau with our grandchildren (then 9 and 7). We had heard that if you go to the site early in the morning (~7:00 am) you can watch them prepare the Imu and pig. My grandson wanted to go so we took him. It was the best part of the entire experience. We were the only ones there. We saw them prepare the pit, start the fire, and add the rocks. When the rocks were hot enough the pig was brought out and prepared (my grandson got a kick out of touching the pig). The banana leaves were added and the whole thing was covered in sand. This whole process took about two hours. We left and came back in the evening for the luau and watched them take the pig out of the imu. It made the entire luau unforgettable (my grandson can still tell you what the pig weighed - 86lbs). I highly recommend it.
