I was just chatting on the phone with my friend Marsha and she mentioned her friend and my acquaintance, Marge. I just saw Marge a couple of months ago.
We'll go back in time to about 10 years ago. Marge and her husband had gone to Orlando during our February vacation (a pretty strange New England thing). As luck would have it, snow hit New England and Marge and her husband, scheduled to return on Friday morning, had their flight cancelled and rebooked for Saturday. So with an extra day and little to do, they decided to go for a Hilton timeshare tour at Sea World. You know what happened next. In just a few short hours, Marge and her husband were the proud owners of a timeshare! Back to work and fast forward a couple of weeks later. I walked into the teachers' room and someone said, "Oh, you should tell Judi about your timeshare. She's all about timeshares." So Marge told me the story of the flight, the sales presentation and the most beautiful timeshare in the world. She was nearly giddy. Planning on retiring in a few years, she was so excited about the places they could go. Since her rescission period was long expired, I saw no good reason to say anything but "Hilton's are beautiful."
A year later, Marge came back from vacation with a huge smile. "No wonder you love timeshares! This is the only way to vacation." And then she traded for someplace I can't recall and she was over the moon. I don't know that I have ever met a happier developer purchased timeshare owner! Every time she vacationed, she would report back on the beauty of timeshares.
Marge retired a few years before I did and I didn't see her very often but, you guessed it, when I did, she gushed about her travels. She had grown up in a modest family and never dreamed of vacationing in the lap of luxury. When I ran into her in the grocery store a couple of months ago, Marge told me of her latest travels to Hawaii. And yes, she was, as always, thrilled. Marge is the woman I think of when people on TUG say, "learn to use what you have." In a million years, I would never tell her what I paid for mine but I suspect that even if I did, it wouldn't bother her too much. She is, and I mean it, just a happy timeshare owner.
This afternoon, I have had the distinct pleasure of watching Sonic the Hedgehog with my eight year old grandson. His mom is a project manager for a company that makes ventilator parts. We made the decision that his being with us is our contribution to the greater good. So we watched this ridiculous movie and he laughed so hard his sides hurt. After he left, my friend called and I was thinking that there really isn't much I can do to make things better right now except to do something sort of silly but fun.
Have a great weekend and a Happy Easter.
