Hi, I'm new to this forum but have been an owner for 12 years now. We originally purchased points at South Beach, which was then taken over by HICV a couple years later.

We've stayed at Orange Lake in Kissimmee many times and generally love the resort. Only 2 things about it bug me.

1) Why 2 entrances on Hwy 192? Why not an entrance on Hertzog, so you can get to Disney faster via Western Way, thus avoiding all the traffic on 192???

2) And, the big one: checking in and dealing with the obnoxious folks holding your parking pass hostage while they try to browbeat you into attending an owner's update. I've only heard horror stories about folks that go to those update meetings. What options do we have towards getting checked-in faster? Last time, I was seriously tempted to call the cops. After an exhausting 9 hour drive, the last thing in the world i need is to engage in meaningless chit-chat with a salesman while myself and the rest of our group just want to eat and hit the bed. Is there a magic phrase I can use to get them to fork over the pass?

I usually tell them some version of:

"I'm not going to a presentation, no matter what you offer. I suspect you have a daily target for tour sign-ups, and so the faster you finish with me, the faster you can get to someone who might say yes." After that, I more or less refuse to answer any questions.

Sometimes they are obligated to go through the entire script because that's part of how they are evaluated. But at least this way it goes a little more quickly.

The parking pass is always an issue, specially when you get the smart asses that think they are so clever. I can read most of these but there are some that genuinely think is your best interest to attend these updates.

I just see who I am dealing with and if they are the clever ones, I directly go into asking for the parking pass and saying I am not interested in anything they have to offer, and I may be somewhat rude. If the person is naive and genuine, I just let them go through their script and very politely ask for the pass, and if they do a good, I might let them call me for a follow up.

But I have to say that some of the most uncomfortable parking passes have happened at OL.

If they give you your keys and room number begin walking to the elevator or your car, ignore anyone who shouts or comes after you. You do not need a parking pass (because they usually ask for make/model & License plate at check-in). If you do, they can slide it under your door.
They are being rude to you by not respecting your "no". You do not need to be polite after that.

I think your vehicle has to have that pass displayed on the dash of your car/hanging from the mirror to avoid getting towed. But, if that's not the case, I'm going to immediately leave after getting my room key from now on.

I recently went to Orange Lake with just one of my kids and no spouse. The they asked who I was traveling with and I said it was just me and my kiddo they gave us our parking pass with no hassle. So I am thinking it was because my spouse was not there. I would try that route.
