Just returned from Kauai where we purchased at the Westin Princeville. I had an issue with American Express while applying for the Starwood card and got irritated with the whole thing. Started reading on here about voluntary vs. mandatory resorts and realized Starpoints were only every other use year. We decided to rescind and sent the paperwork in yesterday.

We are reading up on the message boards and still want to own something in Starwood in the future, but now know which resorts to buy at resale for StarOptions.

Just wanted to say thanks for saving me a bundle. We paid a bunch for the Grand Lodge on Peak 7 from the developer, but we locked in the weeks and penthouse units. We use those weeks every year and I have yet to regret the purchase. Starwood is for getting to Hawaii and other places we may want to go. So we will be looking for something good along the way.

Any advice is always appreciated.

Tracy,

I believe that you made a wise decision in rescinding.

I suggest doing more research on Interval, Star Options, mandatory vs. voluntary, and Maintenance Fees.

For Star Options, you may want to start by looking into WKV and SDO. If you want to trade into Hawaii then you will probably want 148,100 Star Options (but maybe only 81,000).

Good luck in your research and decisions.
