Excellent. Congrats. Enjoy. I know we get extra pleausre when we have a good view of the ocean.

So how did you end up OF? Did you purchase standard and were upgraded? We're platinum to so we like to know what location are good about upgrading.

We have good experience domestically. Recently we got a nice OF upgrade when we just bought standard at the Marriott Hilton Head Resort for a few days last August.

Happy New Year!!!

We just got upgraded two weeks ago at the Marriott Waikiki. We went from a city view to an ocean view. I would have labeled it Oceanfront!
We paid $169 on a promotional and our upgrade was listed at $369. I love Marriott too!!!

We got two nice Elite upgrades this year.

The JW Marriott in Tucson, AZ put us in a nice JR Executive Suite with separate living room - very spacious.

The Renaissance in Indian Wells, CA put us in a huge suite with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a living room. We were travelling with our children so the extra space was very much appreciated.

We had to ask for the upgrade in Tuscon, but the Renaissance gave us that amazing upgrade without even asking for it (I think the hotel was quite full at the time).

I also made Plat this year based on my TS stays and some hotel stays around them. Just spent New Year's Eve at the Marriott County Hall on points and got a nice upgrade into a better room and enjoyed dinner in the Library with great views across the river to Big Ben and we were right on Westminster Bridge for the fireworks at midnight.

We had a great time and enjoyed wine and canapés in the lounge which was complimentary and a free breakfast in the main restaurant this morning as the lunge was full when we arrived.

So again my thanks to Marriott for a splendid New Year.

Same here, we made Plat and scored a few upgrades. Most recently, we just got back from SurfWatch where we spent 5 nights in an oceanvista 2BR, using the 45% discount code for Premier Plus DC-enrolled owners. They put us in the best of those available units, 5th floor in the center with one of the larger balconies. Gorgeous!

We'll be Plat for 2012 and will roll over at least 10 nights (these last 5 should post for 2011 but haven't yet) to get a good jump on continuing into 2013.

Our son Steve proposed to his girlfriend Denise last night. :) I resolve to try my best to NOT get in their way while they plan their big day. But what I'm most hoping for, now, from Marriott status is that we can help them put together a wonderful honeymoon trip whether it's in 2012 or 2013.

So thanks Marriott, and thanks to all the TUGgers who so generously help us make the most of our Marriott ownership. Happy New Year!

1. Show up
2. Shut up
3. And wear beige!

But not to light a beige lest it be mistaken for ivory :hysterical: ....
Sue- on a more serious note- CONGRATS!!
Be prepared for sticker shock; wedding planning isn't for the faint of heart. It is easy for everything to be twice as expensive as you thought it would be.

Sue, congratulations!! Please keep us apprised of Steve and Denise's wedding and honeymoon plans. I've given a couple of honeymoon trips to family members and friends and its a great feeling. Good luck with the wedding planning process!

Best,

Greg

Many of you mentioned in this thread, the ability to earn Platinum with Marriott through your timeshare.

I am new at this....can someone please explain how you get credits towards reaching the Platinum member?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Thanks, everyone, for the nice happy thoughts! I'm sure to be here asking questions over the next months and have no doubt that you'll be able to help me. Love the "show up, shut up, wear beige" simple rules! :D

In my work I have to keep up with wedding costs and trends so I think I'm prepared for sticker shock on the basics. We pretty much all agree that what's going to be most difficult for Steve and Denise is balancing the costs of various events with the huge number of family members they both have - between them they were figuring out last night that they have at least 75 cousins/spouses. Nevermind their aunts and uncles and grands - I have ten brothers and sisters, Don has six, Denise's dad's family is also 11 siblings, her mom's is eight I think. As unbelievable as it might sound in this day and age, we've all pretty much kept in close contact with our relatives and our social lives revolve around family mostly. Whatever the wedding turns out to be, whether it's casual or formal, it's guaranteed that the guest count will be huge. That's about the only thing the happy couple knows at this point, that they want their family around them for the big day.

The only thing I know at this point is that it's finally time to dig into the beads that I found in a little store in Times Square about four years ago. If the bride doesn't want them for her dress then I'll use a few on mine!

Here's a fairly recent thread where we talked about earning Marriott Rewards credit/status through timeshare stays and Chase Marriott VISA use.

In Brief - MR members staying at a Marriott Timeshare resort qualify for the nights stayed to be credited towards their elite status for that year. Anything charged to the account at the resort will earn MR points also. You do not need to be an owner at a Marriott TS just a MR member and ensure the MR membership number is attached to the reservation or show the MR card at checkin.
