Yes and No! I am going to wait and see how the big oil industry counter attack this development this time.

? Deleted this is political.
The article was informative, you injected politics with your comments about big oil sabotage.

I see lots of these articles and it’s always 3-5 years away for these great new leaps in battery tech.

That would be incredible. Technology never ceases to amaze. I have wanted a Tesla for a long time, but our car is still going strong, and that is a win. When it dies, we will be looking at Tesla and some other electric options.

Million mile battery, or 24 months, whichever comes first?
Promises, promises.
Let's wait and see.

These batteries are not pie in the sky, theoretical lab “results”. They are going into production soon. The batteries have been reported on at CNBC over the last 6 months. They will be game changers. This is the reason Tesla stock has been such a strong performer over the last 9 months.
Will they replace the internal combustion engine. Not today, but some day.

I won't live long enough to drive a million miles, nor do I care to. Yet another reason for not buying a Tesla.

My neighbor has the most gaudy Tesla you can imagine.

When faster charging, larger capacity electric storage solutions are developed- and they WILL be, EVERYONE will benefit. Not just Tesla. And internal combustion technology won't go away overnight. But internal combustion and fossil fuels are not the future of personal transportation. Watch and see.

Love the gold. It's pretty gawdy, however. I love wraps. I was considering one for our Toyota, a nice light blue wrap, but there are a few dimples, so it doesn't seem logical, and besides, it's 17 years old. 5/29/2003 is the day we bought the car. 178,000 miles. We had the timing belt (chain?) changed about 40,000 miles back. We should have done it sooner, but apparently didn't need to do it before then. We were on borrowed time. Very risky to wait.

"Million-mile battery' is in scare quotes for a reason. No one in his right mind would engineer a battery that lasts a million miles to put in a vehicle that might last 200,000 miles.

The article is all about cutting costs and just barely mentions a "long-life" battery.

It mentioned less Cobalt which could be a good thing. Batteries are nasty things made from nasty chemicals. The main cobalt mining region is in Congo which is war torn and totally controlled by China these days. We are self-sufficient in oil now but not in Cobalt and Lithium.

The one impact the new battery technology will bring is not in cars, but in gadgets. Much longer lasting gadgets, because of longer lasting batteries. . .

¿So why is Elon selling almost all his real estate in the USA, and other property? ¿Is he planning an off world move?

ICE will be around for a long time. Oil storage facilities are all full. Tanker ships are drifting at sea because there's nowhere to unload. Demand is down. Prices are down. Can't justify an expensive battery at this point, plus we have a LOT of cars to keep going. All those ICE cars aren't going away because Tesla has a new battery.
