Hello, I am considering purchasing a timeshare in Maui. I am a Canadian citizen living in Canada. Does anyone know of any hidden taxes that would apply to me if I made a US timeshare purchase.

Thanks for any advice.

Mark

No hidden taxes I'm aware of and we own a number.

Same here, no hidden tax I know of... We have a couple of timeshares in Mexico and another registered in California, we simply pay our MF in USDs like everyone else.

Welcome to TUG.

A side note when purchasing a timeshare in Maui and living in Canada is that you will have to have the paperwork notarized in the U.S. We use it as an excuse to visit Seattle and have a great mini vacation.

Or you can use the notary services of a US consulate located in a Canadian city

I don't thik GST would apply as you are not importing anything in to Canada. Best to check with a tax attorney or CPA in Canada to be on the safe side. Many people from Canada purchase US timeshares with no problems.
