The trains in Europe are wonderful. My only experience was in Switzerland and the UK. I took the train from Zurich to Lugano, so almost to Italy.

These are good options, but for anyone considering traveling between Italy and Switzerland I would highly recommend the Bernina Express (https://www.rhb.ch/en/home). It's much, much better than a regular train.

We'll be going there in 2022, hopefully.

Thank you! I too have bookmarked this article. I was disappointed when we stayed at Lake Como but didn't have time to travel from there to Switzerland. We hope to spend a month on Lake Maggiore and travel into Switzerland then, by train or car. But that seems so improbable at this moment. We did travel from Venice through Switzerland on Belmond's Orient Express. But dusk was falling and then came the most wonderful black tie dinner so not much time was spent enjoying the scenery.

Yep. Our itinerary this summer included traveling by train from Paris to Switzerland and Switzerland to Italy.
