Can anyone tell me if I have to go through customs in the Sydney airport before going on to Melbourne? The connecting flight is on United which is the next gate right by the incoming flight on Delta. There is only 1 hour between flights, is this enough time? Never been in this airport and need some help.

It is my understanding, that if "going through customs" is a requirement, it must be accomplished at the initial point of entry. Therefore, I am assuming that you MUST go through customs at the Sydney airport.

I will also assume that you probably won't have enough time to catch your connecting flight.

If you made the reservations yourself, you probably are "out of luck". If you used a travel agent, or another third party, then they should "adjust" your travel boarding to Melbourne (at no charge to you).

An hour between flights, especially a "long" first flight, is NOT a good idea. The first leg could be delayed, or the wind patterns might cause for a longer than publixhed flight time.

To land; taxi to the gate; leave the plane; get your luggage; get checked in to the next flight; board that plane; etc., in an hour usually isn't feasable.

At least you have time to change your ssecond flight.

Agree a one hour connection time is not a good idea on any overseas flight.

If the airline made the reservations, get them to reroute you.

Cheers

I just went through that in Jan. We were on the same United plane but have to go through a quick security recheck. The whole thing took 20 min or so and we still had time to spare in the Lounge. If your plane is on time, you should have no problem making it. However, I will make sure that the itinerary is booked through one company/airline so if you do miss the connection, it's their responsibility to rebook you on a later flight.
BTW, you go through custom at Melbourne, and your luggage should be checked all the way to MEL as well.
