First of all thanks to all you regular posters on the site, Denise, DavidnRobin, Kath, Duke, etc. You have saved me countless hours of trying out how to figure out the best way to 'skin' Starwood (however I have probably spent all those hours on TUG:) )

Do any of you regulars know if it is possible to swap out a requled unit?
I had requaled a resale 81000 point WMH unit ($4K on ebay) with a Lagunamar 81000 platinum 1br Premium OV ($21K).

I was told by the sales agent at SVO that if I was buying a 1 bed 81000 points I could only qualify in that many points. It sounds like this was inaccurate and I should have bought a 148000 point resale per Kaths 5* in 5 easy steps stickie.

Does anyone know if I could find another WMH 148000 resale and just swap out my 81000 WMH unit?

Originally I did all of this as I wanted elite status and gold status as I stay in hotels a lot.
I am/was considering PFL but have been dissuaded by the recent devaluation and since I became elite they took away the villa upgrades.

I though this was the cheapest way I could get 3* elite and conversion to starpoints (which I am less sold on since becoming a tugger...Just need to figure out how to rent out for the prices Denise gets:D )

So where do I go from here??? Buy a Mandatory like WKV (my 1st choice for a resale but couldn’t find a cheap one at the time I needed to purchase) then try to requal it down the road?
I don think I can upgrade either of our current units as Mexico cannot be upgraded and WMH is sold out.

Where can I find original purchase prices to figure out what a possible upgrade is valued at?

On another note can someone point me to a chart where I can see what all the properties staroptions convert to in star points?

I suspect you were misled by the sales agent that you could only requal a similar size SO deed with a new purchase. And, unfortunately I would think they won't allow you to swap out anything post-sale (how long ago did you purchase?). Unless it's in writing, they won't do much, if anything.

What's your goal now? You mention buying a mandatory resale, but don't specify how many SOs you need - or are you planning on selling what you have and then buying a unit resale? I'm a bit confused. If you were thinking of selling, I'd suggest keeping WMH at least, since it didn't cost you much and can get great II trades.

Also, I'm surprised to hear that you can't upgrade Lagunamar. I had thought they have plenty of Platinum weeks left - why won't they allow you to upgrade there? (And, others will answer but... you might be able to requal during an upgrade as well - it is, after all, a new purchase).

You CAN upgrade WLR, but the seasons and unit sizes can't match. No Plat 1BR to Plat 2BR - must be Gold 1BR to Plat 2BR for example. That's what my SVO salesperson told me 2 days ago.

Wow - that's just ridiculous. Offer them the money and it might change...

I didn't get that quite right. I just re-read the email she sent me and here's what it says about WLR...

Also, at Lagunamar there are no upgrades from season to season, i.e., we can't upgrade a Gold Studio to a Gold One Bedroom. we can do a Gold Studio to a Platinum One Bedroom though.

I am about 99.9% certain that you can't "unrequal" your previous requal and put another in it's place. But if you upgrade your 1BR unit to a 2BR unit, you can requal another resale purchase.

You will easily find a sales person who is willing to upgrade your 1BR platinum to 2BR platinum (and retro another unit at the same time). Many people have done this.

Starpoints conversion exchange rate

Can someone point me to a chart of what each properties converion is to starpoints? Or tell me which ones have the highest converion rate.
My WMH converts to 48K starpoints but Cancun only converts to 38.5K.
At the time I bought Cancun from the developer I thought all 81000 or 148100 properties all converted to the same number of starpoints.
Who knows if I will ever convert. but if I go for 5* with the bonus converion rate I want as many starpoint converions points as possible.

So in general do higher MF = larger starpoint conversions? Or is it more related to the property (this is what i would assume)

It's related to the property. See the developer pricing info in the owner resource sticky.

There is a Starpoint Chart in the Owner Resources sticky under the Starpoint heading.

Starpoint values are also given in the Developer Prices Info. under the Buying and Selling heading.

Resale conversion

I have seen the starpoint chart which shows required starpoints to stay at each hotle class, and the developer pricing for active units, with the starpoint value.

I am trying to figure out how many starpoints I would get on a requaled resale to narow my search.

I had no idea taht I was going to get more starpoints for my WMH than Cancun.

Looking at a WKORV resale but prefer the MF of WKV. However I have seen some pretty inexpensive WKORV resales closer to the price of WKV resales.
Would I get the same amount of starpoints on conversion?

There are 2 specific links in the Owner Resources sticky that I was referring to in my post above:

This chart from the Owner Resources sticky shows the Starpoint values of all the Starwood timeshares -

This chart from the Owner Resources Sticky shows the Starpoint values for the resorts that are still in active sales -

It's all in the FAQ above...

for example:
WKORV 2 bed = 80,000 SPs
WKR 2 bed plat = 72,000 SPs

If you're talking about the bonus starpoints, not conversion starpoints, then that's very variable. When Starwood has a property or a deal they really want to do, they will increase the incentive with more SP. We've been quoted a deal at Harborside for a 2BRLO and 315,000 incentive Starpoints, but we've also been quoted a property at SBP with 30,000 incentive Starpoints. Some of it seems to be salesperson discretion -- one salesperson we've talked with said he has to pay for additional SP over the minimum provided from Starwood.

Thanks

For some reason I thought the excel chart was required starpoints to stay at the resorts in the event you were not using staroptions.

You can usually only use Starpoints to stay at a timeshare if they are running a special - usually Starpoints are only for hotels and airfare.

I guess I am bit confused as well. I feel pretty 'decent' about what I was able to accomplish considering a purchase through SVO was necessary to requal. Too bad i didn't get a 2bed a WMH. Anyway just trying to figure out how to sweeten the deal most economically. I think I will keep WMH but we go to AZ every year so I would like to buy a WKV if I can find one on the cheap. Also figure I may go for 4 * if I can pull this off through one resale and an upgrade or a double upgrade (upgrade a resale week and upgrade my current Cancun week) I think that may be my next move.
