Can anyone tell me, how can someone who owns in the Cascades section switch to SVO?

My friend went to a schpiel and she bought a pkg for $2,000 and the guy said after she goes to the next schpiel at Vistana Jensen Beach then she can switch her week to SVO, was she lied to by the salesperson or is that something they are doing now?

SVO = Starwood Vacation Ownership. Starwood TS are also called SVO. SVN = Starwood Vacation Network. SVN is the internal Starwood trading system.

I am assuming that she had bought Cascades in the resale market and hence it is not part of SVN. Only resale Mandatory Starwood resorts or developer-bought timeshare get to trade within SVN.

I believe what she bought for $2000 is the explorer package. On her return, she will need to put down more money to either upgrade her Cascades into SVN or buy another resort from the developer to requalify/grandfather her Cascades into SVN. It means more money beyond the $2000, although the $2000 can be applied to the purchase/upgrade price.

No she bought it directly from Vistana before it was Starwood, but years ago when Starwood offered them to go in she didn't want to because the sales person told her it wasn't worth it as the points to trade will go up but her unit wouldn't, you know those salespeople.
But she did buy the explorer pkg and they salesperson told them that upon listening to a schpiel at Jensen Bch, she would be able to get into SVN...I think they lied, what do you think?

Mmm... it was an open offer to join SVN to original owners of Lakes and Cascades till May 31, 2011. I did take up the "final" offer in May this year. I believe that offer to join is no longer on the table after May 31.

I do not know if they will re-open the offer to her when she attends the owners' update at Jensen Beach but I doubt so. I have not heard of it.

I hope she got that promise in writing.

Did you have to pay to get into SVN when you joined in May?

$599. Original offer back in 2000 was $99 and it went up by $100 every couple of years...

Very interesting, because they were there in August 2010 and that is when the sales rep told them they could get into SVN if they bought the explorer pkg.
But NEVER told them the enrollment was still going on. WHY wouldn't they have told them, isn't that odd? I mean they bought the explorer pkg, they could have did the right thing and took $599 of that money and put them in SVN.
Not good :(

Are you absolutely sure that she bought from the developer? I have been getting email communication from Starwood about joining SVN throughout the years... and she would have gotten the same communication. The final offer to join SVN was received in Apr 2011.

Most salespersons are uneducated as to what is going on.

I'm almost positive she did, but now you are making me second guess it since she never received any correspondence.
I will double check with her and let you know for sure.
Thanks for all your replies, I appreciate them

I'm thinking they were sold the Explorer package, and they will need to purchase a new unit from the developer on the return visit, which will let them in to SVN.

I can't see how the salesperson would be able to join the existing Cascades unit in to SVN without another developer purchase.
