Many of the Sheraton Vistana units will go through or have gone through a major refurbishment paid for by a special assessment ($1700-$2500). Can anyone shed any light on what will be involved in gaining SVN membership after the refurbishment is complete? Will this cost money and will it include the option for star options conversion to star points? We are original purchasers of two weeks in the Courts in 1980 and 1981 and are looking for any information on this. Looking for feedback from any other Sheraton Vistana owners that have completed the refurbishment and if they joined SVN. Appreciate any feedback.

Welcome to TUG! :hi:

Other owners have received invitations from Starwood to join the SVN, after their phase was refurbished. I believe the fee was waived. However, there will be a yearly fee, every year after joining. Currently, the yearly membership fee is $109.

If you become a member, you will be able to convert your week to Staroptions or Starpoints, however, many people do not think that converting to Starpoints is a good option, because you don't get very many points.

For lots of info. about how Starwood works, see the Starwood FAQ at the top of the page and also Owner Resources, were you can download Staroption and Starpoint charts.

I was able to join SVN as a Vistana owner a few months ago. Denise is correct--the initiation fee was waived for us (we were given until a certain date to join without that fee). While I believe they will offer the opportunity to join to each of the sections as they're remodeled, I don't know that they've ever said it's a guaranteed offer

As for what was involved to join, it was simply filling out some forms that they made available on their website. They said if I decided to wait it would cost $599 (I think that was the amount) if I decided to join later.

I'm still waiting to hear about my II membership. I wrote to SVN a couple weeks ago and they said it's still being processed. You would've thought that after six months or so it would have been pretty much done and only needed an activation date and a membership # would have been issued!
