When we were 3* we had a couple of small to large one bedroom upgrades (once at Atlantis). But you have to understand that you are competing with 4 and 5 stars who get priority WHEN it is available. It does not matter how far in advance you book, as a 5* I would get a priority. I also get the look at upgrades 60 days out and 3* is 30, but we have had ressies that have not been upgraded due to no availability.

last year was our first year as a 3* and when we went to harborside for our week with the l/o they upgraded us to the 3br. which was great because we had so many people with us.

so how great is 5*. what kind of upgrades have you gotten at the hotels? i am trying to convince my husband but it is a real hard sell. help

Your hotel upgrades will be based on the Plat SPG status you get at a 5 Star Elite - there is tons of info. on this board about Plat upgrades -Flyertalk.com/SPG

As usual Denise is right, I learned a lot at Flyertalk, but there is a lot of whining as well. That said, I have only traveled twice since platinum and was upgraded both times and recieved an extra 500 starPOINTS each time. So far so good, we are going to Europe this summer and we are hoping that is when it will pay off.

My wife just made ressies at Kierland for May, got a small bedroom upgraded to premium one bedroom the spot. If this is the trend, and we know it won't always happen, it will be worth it to us. Especially with all of the new resorts coming on-line.

I've been upgraded 4 out of 4 stays at Starwood hotels to ocean front.Had 4pm late checkout denied only once out of these 4 stays. Thats only with SPG gold.AS a plat you should do great.The Info on flyertalk is great but the whining is hard to take.
