We will be staying at the Flamingo over the 4th and got the concierge call today. Their opening offer for an update was 85,000 points. That’s the highest I’ve personally seen for down there, and higher than any first offer I’ve gotten by quite a bit.
I declined this time because 85,000 points really wasn’t worth my time since we’re only there a few days. Also I guess the sales rep at the Elara didn’t blacklist me like she claimed she was going to. :))

I never take the first offer (if that is the starting bid, you should be able to get more should you be interested). I usually tell the concierge that I will go for $250 off MFs. I see what they tell me back, but really I don't go unless the price is right and it will fit my schedule.

And were you expecting her statement to be true? ;)

Well of course not. I still laugh about that update, I had really gotten under her skin and she stormed off. After she told me it was so sad that I was only there for the points I stopped being nice.

One comment I read here a while back amused me. When asked why they were attending the "update," one poster said - "I'm here for the same reason you're here: they're paying me."

Cheers.

Wow, I must have missed that post. That is good. I think that I will use it next time when the salesperson asks me, "why are you here"? That is usually their opening line too.

Aren't these points worth about a half cent each? 85K and 100K offers seem exceptionally good if that's the proper valuation of a point.

True, but one must endure a lot of pain too and inconvenience. Is that worth it? I just was able to get 125K hilton honors point to attend at Ocean Oak. Was that worth it? Well, it depends.

They just called and told me to check in at the VIP desk. Should I expect a hard sell to go to a preso?

Probably yes, but easy to say no if you don’t want to go to an update.

We were first offered 85k HH points. My wife told them we’d go at 100k. So they raised it. In retrospect, should have told them a higher number.

Yes, it was pretty painful relative to other OO we’ve attended, but this was due to the “advisor”. He was an a$$ from the get go and was just a complete personality turn off to us. Happens but not really a big deal. Just have to suffer through all the rounds of saying no, until we finally get through to leave

I think that I will still come back with $250 MFs and then maybe later say 125K HH. But I don't think that I will go for less any longer.
