I just got a letter from my car insurance company saying that they would be sending a check (not huge, but not nothing either) as a rebate. The letter of explanation was that, during this season of our collective misery (my wording), there are fewer cars on the road and thus fewer accidents. Thus, they feel they can return some of my payment.

I know you can be cynical about their motivation, but, if this helps build their brand loyalty, it works. Treat your customers well.

We just got one from Geico. I did see it in the news a few days ago. Our electric company has provided something similar. A $25 rebate/credit on our next bill.

What company?

Well, not State Farm. I just got the bill for the next 6 months for my car and it went up $8.00. I guess I can contact our agent and see if they can do anything.

State Farm was / is supposed to make an announcement on this subject tomorrow.

I have Geico insurance - waiting for the check
You won't be getting a check. It will be a 15% discount on the next renewal. Our auto doesn't come up for renewal until July, so a few more months before we see any savings.

I wondered if they would do something seeing that other companies are.

And this just came out......................

State Farm announces $2 billion rebate for auto customers, becoming the latest insurer to give money back to drivers. ... Most policyholders will get a 25% credit for the weeks between March 30 and May 31, the Bloomington-based insurer said. State Farm said the exact percentage awarded will vary by state.

Our DS and his wife are working (teaching online) from home so they have no need for the use of 2 cars right now. When the shutdown was first announced here our DS called their auto insurance company to suspend the insurance (except fire and theft) on their newest car which has the highest premiums and advise them that their other car was no longer being used to go to work 5 days a week. The new car is parked in their garage and will stay there until the schools open up again. The older car is being used for occasional trips to the grocery or drug store Their monthly premium has dropped substantially.
There was just a reporter on a Toronto news channel tonight telling folks to advise their auto insurance company if they are no longer driving to work as they may be eligible for a rebate or at least a reduction in premiums. Our DS was weeks ahead on that idea!

-Diane

I will do that tomorrow Diane - thanks!

Got an email that my car insurance company is dropping rates going forward. I believe I just paid in March, so it doesn't sound like it affects me, and by next year the discount may be gone. I should call, though, since I'm no longer driving to work. Have to take the cars out occasionally just to keep them fresh.

We have American Family and was aware of the $50/car on personal policies being refunded to policyholders. We received a letter by email from our agent yesterday and should be receiving the $100 check in the coming week.

This is from their website.

Liberty Mutual is giving a 30% discount on monthly rate for a couple of months.

If they're gonna adjust our bills based on use...
Will internet providers or streamers impose a surcharge?

Allstate said we would get a refund for 15% of April & May premiums. We pay automatically every 6 months, so I will watch for the refund. They also offered free Idenity Theft Protection for the remainder of the year for both of us. We signed up for that. If we decide to keep it in 2020, we will have to pay.

State Farm announced refunds up to 25%.

Yes, I noted that in my last post. They made the announcement yesterday and I posted it in #11.

That sucks because you now must renew with them to get the rebate vs. considering other carriers.

We received notice of 15% for 2 months from Liberty Mutual/Safeco. We prepaid our April and May payment to get an AMEX offer so may not see much benefit.

I have seen or heard anything about discounts from CSAA, (California State Auto Association). Guess i will need to call and check. I pay annually, so assume any discount would be applied to my renewal.

Just read a bit more about what State Farm is doing.

Most State Farm Mutual customers will see a 25% policy credit for the time period March 20 through May 31, which according to State Farm, is "the single largest dividend paid to customers in our company’s history."

"Every State Farm Mutual auto insurance customer will receive credits applied against bills beginning as early as June," the company said.

Since I just received my policy notice yesterday I would assume that one will not be revised. Dh and dd may get the credit when they receive their bills. Dh's next bill would be due August. Not sure about dd.
