Summer ideas at Beaver Creek, CO

We are heading to Beaver Creek with another family next week. We have been busy doing other things and haven't yet had a chance to plan an itinerary. Now it is crunch time.

We are staying at the St James, and they are at Park Plaza. I am looking for suggestions on things to do and places to eat.

I am open to just about anything that will be fun for 19-25 year olds and their parents.

There's lots of great places to eat. We like Ticino and Gashouse and make sure to go when we are there.

The drive up to Piney Lake is beautiful. We did it in a camaro, which I don't recommend, as it is a dirt road with potholes. It's a beautiful drive and you can get a snack at the lake before heading back. I would also drive over Independence Pass to Aspen. If you like horseback riding, Bearcat Stables does a great ride through an aspen forest.

Those look like great dining options, and that drive looks very adventurous to say the least.

They usually keep the main chair lift open through labor day weekend, can take the lift up and hike or mountain bike down. There's a horse stable near the center that offers trail rides. Check out the schedule at the Villa Performance Art Center, very nice place to watch a concert. There's a lot of different activities available, river rafting, fly fishing, check out http://www.beavercreek.com.

So many great places to eat. Blue Plate and Northside Kitchen in Avon are two of our favorites.

The hikes are amazing--really nice views on a clear day. Maroon lake is cool if not too far. The river rafting trips are very fun for 20-somethings; if the water conditions favor it.

But, don't forget the altitude and wind-chill. Be prepared to be cold/hot and get altitude-sickness if you overdo it.

"Oh, lets go have lunch and a beer and then hike without jackets...."

Just a gentle reminder... I was recently seeing spots on Pike's Peak on an empty stomach.

The drive to Sylvan Lake, near Eagle is gorgeous. A drive to Leadville, going one way and coming back the other is a must (a stop by the local coffee shop is a must). Also, the drive to Glenwood Springs through the canyons is breathtaking. The scenery in this part of the country is phenominal.
