I've been to neither, would like to check one out, after all my 2009 vacations will have enough for a long summer weekend of 4 nights or so in a studio or 1 bdroom. Any thoughts as to weather, services etc...

If you are talking about using Staroptions, I think these are nearly impossible exchanges. Summer is very popular at both resorts and you can't make a Staroption exchange of less than a week until 90 days out - when there is likely to be little availability.

I thought that might be the case (options) but the summers are low seasons for both.

You are talking about two of the toughest trades to get--and summer is very popular at both so I think getting either one for less than a week would make you one of the luckiest people around.
I know at Harborside that owners who own that season and don't own fixed weeks scramble to call at the earliest time and still have to keep their fingers crossed!

WSJ and Harborside are the 2 toughest exchanges in SVN - demand is incredible at these resorts, especially WSJ, year round. I think the Staroptions charts are very misleading in this regard - experience shows that whenever kids are on vacation and out of school, demand is very high. Even at 8 mos. out it is difficult to get a reservation at these resorts during the summer. That being said, you may get lucky because of our economy and depressed travel.

I have been told be several "Starwood" people, that last minute reservations are almost always available at Harborside. With that I mean, one or two days notice. The resort is large enough that there is usually several last minute cancellations.

Not so sure about St John. There resort is small and not alot of inventory makes it into II or the rental pool.

If you want to take a gamble, you will have no problem booking for September.

September is likely easy at Harborside--between hurricane season and kids back in school but I think the poster wants to go in summer and I would be very surprised to get something less than a week 90 days out. But again with the economy who knows--all bets are off.
October and early December is also a better time to try--I have been at Harborside the first week in December when my brother owns and we always talk to guests who have traded in.

WSJ this summer may be possible

Buildings 26 and 27 are complete but not yet being sold. I know they're being used for "overflow" because we were originally scheduled to be in unit 2614, but managed to get ourselves moved over to 4414. I was told that Starwood is renting out these units, so I would think they might be available for Staroption trading as they want to have any opportunity to sell them.
