I purchased a 2 br floating prime RCI Weeks week at Summer Bay Orlando, an RCI Gold Crown resort, in April this year, with the sale closing about three months later.

I immediately deposited an August 2008 week with RCI, which I understand would not have much trading power due to the very short notice. I also prepaid my week for 2009 so that I could deposit it, but the week deposited was also less than a year out (next July - the time I want to vacation).

When searching for 2 br summertime 2009 Florida exchanges for these weeks in RCI, I am getting very little that is Gold Crown (except for stuff in Weston, FL), or even Silver Crown, with either deposited week. What really surprises me is that I am being offered the EXACT SAME exchanges for my Aug 2008 week deposit and my July 2009 week deposit.

My questions  :
1. Shouldn't I be offered more in the way of exchanges for the week that was deposited 11 months in advance than for the week deposited 2 weeks in advance?
2. Does trading power for Summer Bay Orlando Gold Crown prime week units generally suck, or was my 11 month in advance deposit still not far enough?
3. Am I looking for exchanges for July 2009 too early? Will more choices likely become available later as people deposit their weeks?

I now own one Gold Crown (Summer Bay Orlando) and one Silver Crown (Sheraton Vistana Fountains) timeshare in Orlando. We like Orlando, but don't want to vacation there every year (maybe once every three or four). I thought buying resorts with a good resort recognition would result in decent trades. So far, I've been disappointed :( . Any advice on improving my lot?

In general, Orlando has more supply than demand, and so that tends to pull down the trade power of even better resorts. I'd also wager that summer is not the strongest possible time there. Yes, schools are out, but on the other hand it's miserably hot---we generally prefer going to Florida during our mid-winter break in February, but like to stay farther north in the summer. For future years' trading, consider booking the week between Christmas and New Years, the weeks before or after Easter, or perhaps President's Week.

Your problem is supply and demand. Orlando has tons of timeshares available, so your trading power is low. You should also search earlier if you want summer weeks. Since many people travel when kids are out of school, those times will be harder to get.
