Suggestions for securing units when visiting non-home resort?

Hi fellow Marriott owners: The question I have is 'How do you secure a nice (e.g. good location, view, not near the trash pickup, etc....) unit at a Marriott you have exchanged into if you are also a Marriott Owner?' Is there anything one can do to get an edge on other parties that are exchanging into a Marriott resort that aren't Marriott owners?

Backgroud: Exchanged our Marriott Newport Coast summer week this year for the Marriott Playa Andalusia in September.

If you have any ideas, or even if I'm crazy to be asking the question, please provide some feedback.

Thanks in advance...
Bob

Call the front desk and ask them for what you want. The villa allocation staff at Playa are great, very friendly, and they will try their best to give you what you want.

Although you wont be top of the request list (that'll be owners at Playa) or even second on the list (owners at Playa exchanging in to their home resort) you are next ..... a Marriott owner exchanging in to a Marriott resort. Call the desk directly and ask! I'm an owner there and have exchanged back in several times and always been given what I asked for or as near to it as they could manage.

Enjoy! :D It's a great resort and the weather should be great.

Thank you Radley

Thanks for that information. Do you know of a good source for the layout of the property? Being unfamiliar with it I wouldn't have any idea short of making a general request of any particular building, unit number, etc...

We're looking forward to the visit.

The Marriott resort we vacation at the most, I have formed a nice relationship with a lady who works with rooms control. I pretty much get what I request when I go through her. Now, if only she worked at all the Marriotts I want to visit!

The most practical thing to do is call the resort and as for one of their pre-arrivals specialists. Then ask if they actually work with rooms control (the people who assign rooms). If you don't get a satisfactory person on the phone, I'd call back.

There are building layout maps for most multi-building Marriott resorts in the "Images" section of TUG individual resort reviews. That section is accessible from the Resort Databases link at the top of this page, but TUG membership (not the same as BBS registration) is required for access.

Playa has a great layout with spacious gardens between each block. There are a few sea view apartments that face directly out to sea and these apartments are on one end of the villas in the 3 front buildings.

Although the rest are listed as gardew view villas, mostly have sea view or a partial sea view. The higher the floor the better the view. There are only 3 or 4 floors but top floor is best. A top floor villa in any of the 3 buildings nearest to the sea would be great. The central building is called Granada, the rest I don't know.

Hope that helps.
