Staying at the Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta for a week and need an extra night on Jan 3, 2009. I have tried to reserve an extra night there on the Wyndam hotel site, but I don't think it allows one night rentals for this weekend because it shows no availiablity.

Can I email or call the Grand Mayan NV directly to ask about an extra night - anyone have the number or an email?

Since I have never been to Nuevo Vallarta, can someone recommend a moderately priced hotel closeby where we could stay?

We also have an extra night on the front end and am staying in downtown Puerto Vallarta on the night - so we can walk along the Malecon and spend an evening downtown. But don't want to spend the extra cab fare to do this again on the back end - but we will if need be.

Thanks,

Joyce

Extra Night

Check out the PRPV website. They have rentals in Nuevo Vallarta and less expensive rentals in Bucerias, which is close by. Your stay in Bucerias would also have the expense of a taxi there and a more expensive taxi to the airport when you leave, but the rent is a bit cheaper there. VRBO also has NV listings.

How about coming back into PV and staying at the Marina area? It is only 5 mins from the airport which is great, and has some neat little restaurants- gotta love Victors- all walkable. Rooms are available on Priceline.

Grand Mayan Contact

I also needed an extra night at GM in Nuevo Vallarta.
Here is a copy of the email response I received.

Good Afternoon:

About your question. we need to know on wich hotel you have your reservation, The Grand Mayan, Mayan Palace or Sea Garden, because they have different rates each one, if you have your confirmation number please send me it ,to check on my system . Today we can`t confirm the space, because we don`t have all the reservation for November yet, maybe it will be a month before you come.

Try the Samba Vallarta by Pueblo Bonito - it is in the Nuevo area and is nice and clean and the all inclusive food was good - not great but good.

Or book a night at the Westin near the airport on Expedia.

Travelocity lists a studio at Paradise Village for $154. for Jan. 3rd. The cab from the Grand Mayan to Paradise Village ran appx. $6. a year or two ago. Another option is Villa del Palmar at the north end of the hotel zone in Puerto Vallarta. Travelocity lists a small studio for $107. and a large studio for $116. Finally, the hotel search engine on www.alaskaair.com lists the Flamingo Vallarta Hotel and Marina regular hotel room at (obviously) the marina area of Puerto vallarta for $79. The closest hotel to the Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta is Villa Varadero (right near where you'll catch the bus to Puerto Vallarta from the Grand Mayan), but I'm not seeing any availability there. These were three of the most reasonably priced options I saw for Jan. 3.

I'm not sure I'd worry a lot about limiting yourself to the Nuevo Vallarta area for Jan. 3rd to save on cab fare. You're going to have to pay the cab fare from the Grand Mayan to the airport anyway. It would probably only cost $5. more to continue on to a hotel zone hotel. Then, on Jan. 4th, a cab from the hotel zone, the marina, or even downtown to the airport won't be that expensive. Cabs TO the airport are much less expensive than cabs FROM the airport.

You might want to stay at the marina or resort row which is close to the airport. My recllection is that nuevo vallarta is almost all quality resorts. No moderately priced hotels to think off. I saw availabilty at Villa Del Palmar resort which is in resort row between the marina and downtown. It is a nice **** star timeshare resort (about 10 minute drive to the airport or downtown) for $106 for a suite to $132 for one bedroom. I have stayed there and it is clean with ammenities. Saw this on Kayak.com which is a travel/hotel search engine (looks at numerous sites).

We needed an extra night a few years ago. Used Hotwire.com and ended up with a lovely studio at Villa Del Palmar Flamingos. Unfortunately, I don't remember the rate, just that we were very pleased. :D

We are doing this very same thing in November. Staying at the Villa Del Palmar Flamingos for the week, then one extra night before we go back. We decided to take advantage of the extra night by staying in Puerto Vallarta instead of N.V. to check out the sites of P.V. We found a great rate at the Fiesta Americana P.V. at one of the online sites, then went to their site directly and found the same rate. (I always prefer to book directly with the hotel if the rates are the same).
