My husband and I are heading to Baltimore next week for a 3 night stay at Staybridge Suites. It's probably been at least 20 years since we last visited. (Last trip we visited Fort McHenry, Aquarium....and I can't remember what else.) Any suggestions for places to visit & restaurants/cafes to eat? Already checked to see if the Orioles are in town during our stay....but they are not.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Deb, Baltimore has changed quite a bit in 20 years and not all for the good. The inner harbor has nice places to visit but, stay within that area. Here are the local news stations. Perhaps this will help you catch up.

People here are saying you need to stay on the right side of the tracks. If you feel like pushing that line, I particularly like the B&O Railroad Museum.

There is now a huge casino if you are interested in that. I love Baltimore, and sadly it has definitely gone down some. Fells Point is always fun.

Any chance you could stay in Annapolis rather than Baltimore? The Baltimore city has gotten a bit rough.

No, we can't stay in Annapolis.....our reservation is for 3 nights at Staybridge Suites, Inner Harbor. (We are using some of our timeshare points...which would expire the end of July.... to exchange to this suite hotel.) Would love to visit Fells Point neighborhood....and of course, the Inner Harbor. It looks like quite a bit is within "walkable area" of the Staybridge Suites. Any restaurants/cafes/pubs that are recommended?

You will find lots of outdoor eateries and pubs in the inner harbor area. I was wracking my mind trying to remember any that might have stood out when we were there about 3 years ago. We have friends that live nearby and they surrounded us with their large Italian family and 'seeing the sights', "Hon." Too bad the Orioles are out of town.

Welcome to Baltimore's Vibrant Inner Harbor & Charm City

Be sure to experience The Sagamore Pendry, with a panoramic view of the harbor.
Dine at the Rec Pier Chophouse, the cozy Cannon Room, whiskey bar and waterfront lounge located along Thames Street on Baltimore’s Historic Recreation Pier in Historic Fells Point. Established around 1763. To get around and see the harbor ride the Baltimore water taxi.

Weather Forecast for next week
Hot and Humid in the mid 90`s!

There used to be a great crab place (that you still had to drive to from the Inner Harbor) called Obrycki's. Now the main one has closed and there's just one at the airport, of all places. I think it's INSIDE the airport so you can't go unless you're flying.

Here's a guide to finding a great crab place, from Baltimore magazine:

https://www.baltimoremagazine.com/section/fooddrink/the-25-best-crab-houses-in-baltimore/
Crab prices are the highest I've ever seen them right now. Phillips is right on the inner harbor there so that's an option, but Captain James landing is better (just on the other side of Fells Point from the harbor). Mama's on the Half Shell and Pint and Shell are two really great restaurants in Canton (long walk or short Uber ride away).

Little Italy has some nice Italian places and that's a short walk from the Harbor. The Harbor East area has some fancy places like Chingale (Italian) or Charleston (French). Both spendy. Unfortunately the pandemic really impacted the restaurant scene in the Harbor area. :(

As others have said, Baltimore has had its crime issues the past few years and make sure you're not out late anywhere, or stray too far from the water.

ETA: we still have a mask mandate in the city until July 1st, so be aware of that. If you venture outside of the city no restrictions at all. COVID is basically eradicated in Maryland (only like 50 cases/day in the state).

Thank you for the responses, and the suggestions. Looks like it will be "hot & humid" for our stay. We will definitely be exploring the inner harbor & Fells Point areas. :whooopie:

Our 3 day visit is coming to an end. It has been very hot & humid, which has made walking the local areas almost unbearable. Our hotel, (Staybridge Suites), is close to the Inner Harbor, and we did walk to Fells Point area, as well. As someone posted earlier....many places were closed, and/or had very limited hours. We did visit the Aquarium, toured the USS Constellation & Torsk, (submarine), visited the Fells Point area, and toured Sagamore Distillery. We did find some great pubs/restaurants in the local neighborhoods---Peter's Pour House, Alexander's Tavern, Shirley's Cafe, and visited the Broadway Market.
Thank you to all who made suggestions.

Yeah, you picked a hell of a three days to be here weather-wise. Nice exploring...you picked a nice sampling of Baltimore.
