We are to be checking in at a Club Wyndham facility this Friday, Oct. 4th in Clearwater. I have called them & they said they have no power now but plan to reopen Friday. I was told the beach would reopen Tues @ 4 PM.

In light of all the hurricane destruction in the area, would you advise us to cancel? We can't imagine that restaurants will be open...

Thank you.

Thank you for your update; hope the power has been restored for your checkin on Friday, Oct 4th at Clearwater. When we have stayed there previous years there are plenty of great restaurants inland, and in St Petersburg. If you get to stay at Wyndham Clearwater Beach and need some ideas on where to eat, let me know and I will send you a couple of our favorites.

From today’s post on the Clearwater Beach FaceBook page.
The Clearwater Beach you know and love is not ready for visitors. While police checkpoints have ended to allow traffic on and off the barrier island, now is not the time to come to Clearwater to sightsee. The roadways to the barrier island are open now so that contractors, cleanup crews and resources can get to and help our beach residents and business owners.

We want to remind people that our beach is not ready to host visitors. The public bathing beach is closed and is filled with dirty sand and debris, and dead marine life is causing it to smell. Parking lots are not available because they are staging locations for piles of sand and equipment, roadways are still full of sand, there is no power or restrooms, and sand conditions are not ideal. We also don’t want visitors clogging the streets and keeping crews who are hard at recovery efforts to get slowed down or even stopped.

The city of Clearwater asks you….please do not come to the beach to galivant and satisfy any sense of curiosity. If you do, this would be at the expense of our residents and businesses that have already lost so much.

Earlier today, (Friday, October 4th) I called Club Wyndham Clearwater Beach to inquire about our reservation for next week. They are open for guests and it appears the current impact to the Wyndham property is the pool and restoring operation of the pool pumps. The parking garage under the hotel and parking ramp is also open and available. I was told that the Pier 66 is closed and the adjoining parking lot is full of sand. Most of the nearby street level restaurants are closed, however the police are no longer restricting access across the bridge into the Clearwater Beach vicinity. Hopefully "jkb" who posted on Monday that they are checking into the property today (October 4th) will find similar conditions.

It could all close again next week with the new Tropical Depression, slated to be a Hurricane by Monday. Right now, most of the Florida Peninsula Gulf Coast is in the cone.
