In civil elections, potential candidates can submit a petition of voter signatures to qualify for the ballot. Are you saying that a timeshare/HOA would typically have bylaws that allow for something similar? Because if there is no avenue - even with demonstrated support from other members - to get your name (and credentials) on the ballot for consideration by the membership as a whole, it smacks of cronyism.

Yes, that is what I am saying. Our HOA has a very similar process that allows candidates to be placed on the ballot. For the most part, HOA's are simply non-profit corporations and subject to the election procedures that apply to all corporate elections. And almost all corporate elections allow the members to nominate people for the BoD.

In Calif all election matters must be handled by a paid third party company to make sure that all is done to State requirements.
