Does anybody know the conversion rate from star options to Marriott points for timeshares? We have 95,700 star options. thank you.
Following is a grid I created to compare purchasing versus converting.
This is a list from Best-Value To Worst-Value.
Surprisingly converting VSN-Resort-Units has better value than converting MVCI-Resort-Units.
Used a Common-Currency Price/Point for an Apples-Apples comparison.
Used MF for each Resort-Week to compare $-Value.
E.g. SO -> Bonvoy-Value
Our WLR & WKV accrue 148.1K SO Each-Year and convert To 216K-Bonvoy [Ratio: 1.46]+ 10% = 237,600-Bonvoy.
Since out MF at WLR is $1490 this works out to $0.006273/Point which is the lowest Best-Value.
Although out Westin-Aventuras converts at a higher Ratio [1.56] its not good value due to the higher MF.
Added 10% for VSN-Resorts due to Elite-Status.
E.g. Promo-Cert -> Bonvoy-Value
Also compared Promo-Certs which is pretty good value.
330K can be purchased for $2275 which works out To $0.006894.
However, this also qualifies for 6xPoints using Amex thus I receive 343650-Bonvoy for $0.006620 making it the second best option for us.
REDEMPTION
Before redeeming make sure you understand how you plan to use the Bonvoy-Points.
As far as possible always book in 5-Night Blocks as you get 1-Night-Free [20%-Discount].
If possible search for Off-Peak pricing resulting in better Points-Usage-Value.
As a rule of thumb I usually book resorts where the $-Value/Night in points is at least $0.015.
Following is an example of a 10-Night-Stay using my WLR 2BR-Unit [237,600-Bonvoy or $1500-MF].
10-Nights Retail in a CAT-5 would have cost me $2500 [including all fees and taxes].
10-Nights using Points cost me ~$1500. $1000-Savings or 40%-Discount.
