Staroptions question

I am going to Kauai in August and booked 3 rooms. I used staroptions to book as the resort is not my home resort. I had leftover banked staroptions from 2020 and my 2021 options. Are you able to see which use year was used for the reservation? I ask because it looks like my remaining options expire the end of 2022 which leads me to believe my reservation used my 2021 use year options vs 2020.

Yes because your 2021 expire Dec 2021 ( unless you bank) but the 2020 expire Dec 2022. If that isn't what you want and you plan on banking you can ask them to switch the points.

Also - When you make the reservation, you can actually choose at that time which Staroptions to use. Usually, the system will automatically use the oldest eligible Staroptions first. But if you had Staroptions that were resticted to a 60 or 120 day reservation window, they wouldn't be used, if it was too early. Once you are in the reservation window, you can call owner services and ask them to use the restricted Staroptions instead.

Thank you! I will give them a call next week to have them use my 2020 options.

Generally, we always use current use year options before banked options expiring the next year. This is so we can save on the $109 banking fee every other year. By using all your 2021 options, you would have no need to bank points from 2021. Next year we are sure to use the banked options that expire in 2022 and then pay the banking fee to bank the 2022 options.

Thanks. This is a good strategy.

Similar to the OP I have 2 rooms booked at Lagunamar in Nov. I booked one room w/ SO that expire this year (2021) and one room w/ banked SO that expire next year (2022). I now only need 1 room and want to cancel the reservation booked with banked SO. I can't tell which reservations was made with the SO that expire this year vs. banked SO when looking online at "my vacations" on the dashboard page. Is there anyway to see this information without having to call/email vistana?

There is no way to determine this online nor does the email confirmation sent when you made the reservation have this information. You'll need to call, email or chat.

I've had really good luck dealing with stuff like this via email. If you go to the Vistana dashboard and click Contact Us there is a way to send them a message. If you are really specific about what you want to do and give them all the information they will need (obviously you'll want to make it clear that you want to cancel the reservation made with banked 2022 SO), they can do it and respond back by email in a day or two.

If you leave out some relevant piece of information or aren't clear, then they may not do what you want (or they may tell you that you need to call in) so be really clear and specific. But this has been my "secret" way of getting things done with Vistana over the past year and it has worked well.

I may have to cancel a one bedroom we have booked in Kauai for August. I have two other 2 bedrooms booked. If I cancel, is it possible to move the restricted options from the 1 bedroom to one of the 2 bedrooms?

Yes, you can always call and they will switch options around for you.

Begin calling immediately at 9am EST on weekdays for best results. YMMV!

I spoke to Vistana and they told me if I cancel my 1 bedroom for August the options would be restricted (that I knew). I asked about applying the restricted options to the 2 bedroom I have reserved at the same time and they said that would be considered a cancellation and the 2 bedroom options would be restricted as well.
