We got a great booking (3BR) at Star Island via II as an exchange using an AC. First time I've done that and I was REALLY happy with what seems like a great value for 7N at just under $300. We own Wyndham points, but have some questions, mostly specific to staying there as exchangers

Will there be any additional fees (like resort fees)?

Will Star Island consider our preferences for building and unit type? (We want to be in a quiet section of the resort and as friends with kids will stay with us a couple of nights, we want true 3br rather than the 2br + den with sleeper if that's even possible).

What is the policy if we need to have 2 vehicles there for a couple of nights? We'll have 1 car and our friends will need to bring their own care for 2N. Can we get 2 parking passes? Any additional charge?

Given the above, anything else I should be thinking about or aware of?

Thanks very much for any feedback.

Best regards,
Frank

There is plenty of parking at Star Island, 2 cars shouldnt be a problem especially for 3 bedrooms but you might call the resort to be sure

Regarding choice of buildings and type of unit: I dont know the answer, but if you call Im sure they will tell you their policy and try to help. Remember this is not a Wyndham managed resort. What we think we know about Wyndham may not apply here

for what its worth, Ive stayed here a couple of times and really like it.

I own a fixed week there and have also stayed there via my Wyndham points.

Owners at this non-Wyndham resort generally stay in the 3 story "villa" buildings while the Wyndham owners roost in the 6 story towers. There are some SI ownerships in the towers.

The villas are one floor units but have only steps up to the 2nd and 3rd floor units.

Since this is an II exchange ... I would suspect YOU are in a "villa" unit. Wyndham still has some II exchange club owners ... but very small in number.

There are 2, three story buildings at Star Island that do not have elevators.

Ron, Linda, Jim,
Thanks very much for your responses. Two further questions:

1) How good is the wifi there? I'm thinking to work from the room for a couple of midweek days and would require a pretty fast connection. Any experience with that?

2) Linda, you mentioned a lot about how the unit assignments will probably work for Wyndham point usage versus II exchange. Given that we'll have a total of 7 to 8 people in the unit ( 4 adults and either 3 or 4 kids ranging up to late teens), is there a particular unit type we should at least try to "request"? I know some of the units are called 3BR but are actually 2BR, 2ba with a den that has a sleeper sofa and they call that a 3rd br.

If the 3 story villas have the best configuration for us (or are just what you'd recommend), I don't mind going up stairs, even to the third floor. I'll be the one carrying most of our "stuff" anyway...

Best regards,
Frank

I never stayed in the 3 story building so I don't know much about them. If I recall correctly these building are close to the main building (front desk). I stay at Star Island off and on and don't ever recall having issues with WIFI. If you do have a poor WIFI connection in your room there are places at the resort to sit and will mostly have a strong WIFI connection, like at pool bar.

I have stayed in the building by the front desk ... WIFI changes and upgrades are done regularly at most resorts... your guess is a good as mine at this time. Those are the NON-Wyndham units ... unless you have a compelling way/reason to convince the Front Desk staff to cross over the computer systems. Usually, ALL RESORTs have "Out or Service" units ... And in Star Island case, homeowners who did NOT pay their MFs but no one rented anything in them. (SI does rent units for owners .. onsite, I believe, over Extra Holidays (Wyndham's rental arm)).

Wyndham reservations are generally in the towers. And depending on how many points (what your reservation says) is what you will be given that unit ... pull out the Member Directory and consult the points used.
