We will be at Frenchman's Cove from 1-28 to 2-9 and will be renting a car. Does anyone know of any reasonable rates from any of the companies? Have been going to STT for many years and this years rates seem to be the highest yet. We want to be able to take the car to St John. I have been looking at rates for the past 6 months, so far Avis has the best rate.
Thanks, tinman

There are three main rental companies Hertz, Avis and Budget. I've found that it's either Avis or Budget with the best rates. They also let you take the car to St John as Hertz does not.

There are at least two independent local agencies that get good reviews but I don't find their prices any cheaper. Here is a website that lists them

http://www.vinow.com/stthomas/getting_around_stt/driving_stt/

I've tried Costco, Priceline and Hotwire but the cheapest rate I get is always through my insurance company USAA.

We'll be there from Feb 11 through Mar 3rd so we won't see you. Have a great time.

We will be there Jan 13-Feb3 so we will see you. We rented from Avis. We will be the ones at the pool speaking Southern and usually some form of University of Georgia gear on us. Jim, we will miss seeing you this year. Our neighbors are there from Jan 7-14 so they have promised us their left overs. I hope they buy lots of food!

Thanks for the replies on the car rentals, looks like Avis has the best deals.
We will be the ones at the pool with the JERSEY accent, and me with the Phillies shirt.

We were extremely please with Zip Rentals. Significant savings from the national brand names. Cars were not brand new, but like a timeshare unit, unless you are the very first occupant, it is not new.

Just got back from STJ and used avis at the airport. Just make sure whoever you rent from will let you take it to St, John. Not every company will.

Actually a beat up vehicle with lots of dents and scratches that runs well is exactly what you want in STT. Once you've tried parking it in downtown CA you'll understand why.
