Hi,
I am hoping someone can give me some information about transfers from UVF airport to Windjammer. I had flights booked on American Airlines into SLU airport for next March. Last night I called American for another matter (we just made million mile status):whoopie: and the recording said "I see there is a cancellation in your trip for March 2012". When I asked what this was about the rep told me they no longer do the flight from San Juan to Saint Lucia on a Saturday and that leg of the flight was cancelled. No one ever contacted me about this and my reservation on line was still there except without the last leg of our trip. I am furious that they never contacted me about this. I spoke with a supervisor about it and he said the change was done July 31st. If I had been notified back then I would have been able to book a direct flight into UVF on Jet Blue using points, but now the point value is too high. I did end up getting American to upgrade me to first class on the new flight they offered (even though on their site it was unavailable) although I had to pay a small difference in points. If I did not upgrade all they had left for seats on the flight were in the back of the plane. So now that I have the flight straightened out, I still have to deal with the 90 minute drive to the resort:( I would appreciate any input you can give me on the trip from the airport to the resort. Would it be worth it to rent a car or just use a transfer service and who would you recommend.? Thanks for the help.

Hi Deb,

Sorry to hear of your problems with AA. We've been similarly let down by BA on a couple of occasions, although to be fair they did warn us once!

Whether or not to hire a car from UVF is up to you. If you're arriving in the dark you might prefer to have a transfer, but otherwise if you are intending to travel around a bit while you're at Windjammer it might be cost effective to hire a car from the airport.

Windjammer can organise a transfer for you, and they just posted on Facebook as follows:-

"You can book your private taxi transfer by calling 1.800.958.7376. Reservations will take your flight information and make the arrangements. From the UVF airport the transfer is US$85 (1-4 people) and from SLU US$25 (1-4 people). "

Although we always hire a car while at Windjammer, we have used a private transfer once or twice. I don't have the details to hand as we are away from home at the moment, but the cost was $80 so probably easier to get WJ to do it for you.

Just know the helicopter does not land at Windjammer but at the airport in Castries. You can only take so much luggage on the helicopter and still need a taxi to WJL. I do not advise renting a car at the airport. They drive on the left. The transfer from the southern airport is not bad at all. Sit back and enjoy!
