Curious to know pros and cons of both islands based on your experiences...

We have only visited each on a cruise, but they are very different IMO. St John is very laid back and much more quiet. St Thomas is a huge cruise ship port and a lot more activity. Both have great beaches, but the ones on St John are a less crowded and truly spectacular. If I were going to only one on a trip, it would be St John. Though we hope when we are able to visit, it will be a two week trip, one week on each island.

Thanks for your response. I own at WSJ so I am familiar with St John. I haven't spent time in St Thomas other than transfers from airport to ferry or coming to the town just for a day. The town did not look that appealing to me. I am glad to hear that there are nice beaches in St Thomas.

We have been to St. Thomas four times (three times for a week, and one time on a cruise stop). We've visited St. John several times on excursions and I echo the comments made about the beauty of the beaches on St. John.

We really enjoy St. Thomas as well -- the shopping in Charlotte Amalie is terrific, there are great beaches on St. Thomas that appear comparable to the ones I've visited on St. John, the restaurants on St. Thomas range from excellent to funky, and for someone who is choosing to stay at the Ritz Carlton on St. Thomas, the experience is phenomenal. I would prefer to stay at the Ritz than at the Westin St. John (but would prefer to stay at Westin St. John versus Frenchman's Cove). And I would never hesitate to stay at Frenchman's Cove -- it's a great property too.

Any of the above are good options, and I think anyone visiting either island will enjoy it.

Best,

Greg
